  1. very nice info dex. It seems that the hack really works
  2. ok! here's the proof I've recorded about 14 seconds of the same hi-sp track, various times, at both hacked mode (25) and standard (A0) mode of my nh700. All of these were recorded using the same input volumes, and the output settings of the unit were changed for each recording. LAME version 3.96.1 was used with preset --extreme Standard mode (A0) Vol 30 - No Equalizer Vol 20 - UNIQUE Equalizer Vol 25 - UNIQUE Equalizer Vol 30 - UNIQUE Equalizer Hacked mode (25) Vol 30 - No Equalizer Vol 20 - UNIQUE Equalizer Vol 25 - UNIQUE Equalizer Vol 30 - UNIQUE Equalizer Notice the difference when the equalizer mode is on... from 25 and up... with the headphones and EQ on, i've been noticing that the signal is actually more stronger in hacked mode, rather than in standard. In the hacked mode with no equalizer and at maximum volume (30), i've been experiencing higher output in my car. I use a sony head-unit with a "homemade" line-in input - [basically it simulates that a cd changer is present and opens up the BUS AUDIO IN rca inputs]. Ok this is all! Enjoy!
  3. well... it seems that the output is higher on my nh700. Or maybe its just placebo effect lol
  4. first if you are stuck, just press stop several times till you get the service mode flashing screen. Here goes the sequence after the flashing service mode screen: (Key | Display) VOL+ | 0 Manual FWD | 100 MT FWD | 110 NV FWD | 111 xxxSCC (xxx values counting up...) FWD | 112 NoClock FWD | 113 xxxS25 (xxx values counting up...) now to change the value after S just use VOL+ to increase and VOL- to decrease (in my case it was set as A0, so i just pressed VOL- till i read 25) PAUSE to save then press stop till you get to the first menu, with the flashing screen.. To quit the service mode remove all the power sources from the unit. Remove battery and / or AC adaptor plug. After that the unit should start normally
  5. It's possible to save the value using the pause button. I've saved this one with no problems. When i press save the disc icon lites up, and the current value is saved.
  6. i've tried it on my nh700. I have a euro capped version. I set it to Hong Kong / Korean (25) I notice some difference in the sound, i raised the volume up to the max and before there was almost no change in sound from 25 to 30, but now the volume raises constantly up to 30 and at 30 things are really loud! (So loud that my headphones started to make weird vibration noises... ) So the good news is that i've kind of damaged my headphones with this! Now my nh700 is as loud as my r70 Tomorrow i'm going to check if on my car the volume is higher using the homemade line-in of my sony head-unit Thank you! For all the others: test it! The code 113 is under the MANUAL section.
  7. i've tried to use my r70 remote in the nh700 and also couldn't play or pause the unit. it seems that the remote resistances have changed.
  8. the serial number of my faulty one is: 4AAA1107E (it came with my nh700, in Portugal) today i was thinking if this included disk is also covered by the warranty... If i have time during this week i'll talk to the guy at the sony store to see what to do... This problem is very disturbing. Like this i won't even buy 1gb discs when they are available here in Portugal...
  9. I have the same problem with recordings done not using the computer. The 1Gb PCM test i've did was to record in realtime about 90 minutes of the sound of me playing Half-Life 2 (-> nice game <-). So it was recorded using the unit itself...therefore i think this is really a disc problem. What is haunting me is that another user reported disc problems above the 700 mb mark...
  10. yes, i've about tried everything: - formatting the disc via the menu - formatting in windows explorer in fat - formatting in windows explorer in fat32 ... I've also tried to fill up the 1gb with a zip file. copying goes ok, but the problems occur when i try to read the file back from the MD. Near the end, windows just gives me an interesting error: "Path too deep"... And no file is copied. Meanwhile in the unit ACCESS ERROR flashes a few times. I've tried to fill up the 1gb disc with PCM audio and transfer it back to sonic stage. Same thing happened: ACCESS ERROR and no transfered track in sonic stage. Another thing: i've already opened the shutter of the hi-md disk and looked all around the disk for anything that might be lying above the disc in a specific area, and visualy I didn't found anythin:, no garbage, no scratches, no nothing.
  11. ok, my only 1gb disc is malfunctioning above the 700 mb mark... very nice! I'm about to trash it... I'm not going to spend more money with this, i'm getting kind of tired!
  12. GREAT! I've tested! It works! With this i can put on sonicstage library tracks that it refused to put due to the DRM. Very good work! This is a great step! After Marc's HIMDRenderer, this one is another important step! You guys should join together! Using this tool with Marc's one, it's possible to download a track from any hi-md and convert it to wav / mp3, without passing throgh SonicStage! Next step is upload! Good Work!
  13. I don't know, maybe the file header is smaller in atrac3plus ... ?
  14. my errors occurred also in the end part of the minidisc... don't tell me that there are defective hi-md disks... i should have learn with all disc related problems that my r70 had before investing more money in minidisc technology... DAMN! Yeah your right, at the time i'm writing this i noticed a 2 second gap again almost at the end of the disc... So there goes my theory down the drain, and i'm nuts again!
  15. Recently i started to report a few errors in recordings made in my one and only 1GB Hi-MD. I was about to go nuts, since it is the only 1gb disc that i have and here in Portugal, there are still no signs of them . These errors are easy to detect. Some tracks are in full silence when played back on the unit, or there are certain parts of the track where the unit just stops for a bit, and advances 2 seconds in silence. Playing back a track with these errors in SonicStage gives a different result: ACCESS ERROR is displayed in the unit, and the software kind of... hangs around in there for a minute or so (the usual thing.. ) The thing is that i've made a custom cool looking stand for the minidisc: (looks cool doesn't it ?) What in fact i've realised is that when i record the 1gb disc in the stand at that position, it's more likely to have errors in the disc. I think that these units, although they are portable, were ment to record in an horizontal plane, like the top of a desk. Apparently when i'm recording in an horizontal plane everything goes well... This weekend i'm going to make further experiments recording outside the stand, and tell you how thing go. Meanwhile i can still use the stand for playing back
  16. how come this topic is not sticky? come on!! good work!
  17. In Portugal i have 2 years warranty on my nh700...

    Why So Cheap?

well, it's quite simple: everyone in here is happy with the outstanding features of Hi-MD, with the constant transcoding to ATRAC3, to not have rights over their own recorded material, so on and so on. So, people are giving away their recorders...

    1gb Discs - Uk

In Portugal they seem to be not available...
  20. i don't think sony will ever provide that... in fact real SP rules, i just love SP. Those fake-SP transfers in SonicStage, are way to stupid. LP2 sound is sent to the record, and then it is transcoded BY THE RECORDER to SP. So... why not just send PCM to the recorder, instead of LP2 :\. These are those stupid things that we will never figure out... Although i have a nh700, in fact i use SP a lot, and very ofently i am doing those old school SP realtime recordings, using the digital output of my soundblaster live...
