  1. If it ends up that Joe Consumer can't make a copy of his own music/pictures/novel, you can rest assured that Intel will have its Customer Service Rep lines busy 36 hours a day. Remember the DIV-X pay-per-play and we-are-monitoring-you-through-you-phone-line DVD standard back in the late 90's?
  2. I know seven, count them, SEVEN different ways around that. Sure, not exactly instantaneous, but it goes around that silly scheme. Sony will be spending 99 cents to earn a dollar with this, and will end up shooting itself in the foot. Not too worried. Remember how OpenCrudeBox had that "3 checkouts and that's it, bucko." restriction? Sony realized it was hurting the format, and now we got unlimited checkouts. And I don't hear Justin Timberlame or Britney Smears complaining about how we can get as many copies of our music on Hi-Sp as we want. And it might be just a matter of minutes before someone cracks that DRM scheme open.
  3. Please don't get offended, but make sure the disc has the write protect tab closed. It has happened to me before.
  4. Perhaps those of us with access to digital cameras and editing solutions could make some mockup ads to show those overpaid, lazy, non-caring, retrograde-thinking Sony execs how they should be doing their job. (Shame on them, eh?)
  5. Two words: Optical cable.
  6. Look at the bright side. If they stop supporting MD and begin catering to the masses with their Crap-Pods and MP3 Players (40 USD for a 256 MB flash card? Heh. May I introduce you to my 7-bucks 1 GB Disc?) MD will become an elite/niche format. And people will look at us MD users with respect.
  7. Mostly clear. But it sounds to me that the SP that unit gets is actually the Fake type. Why would SS allow true SP for this unit, and not the rest? I mean, SS wll record in Stereo/Fake SP mode for other units, so probably that's what it is with this one. It might be 292 KBPS all right, but it has been upconverted from LP2. Thanks for your information. Most useful

    Flac Codec

Jet Audio is a free, no crapware included, fully featured media player that you can use to convert and play your files to FLAC with a few clicks, if you are not a fan of command lines.
  9. Are we sure it's actual transfer and not Fake SP rebadged to pass 292 Kb per sec? Or that it doesn't refer to real time recording? And how much do these babies cost?
  10. Three words: AD-VER-TISE! I'm so sick of seeing the Ipod silhouettes everywhere. How many ads for MD or Network Walkmans? Seriously. Sony reminds me of the guy who goes to church and prays so he can win the lottery, but never buys a darn ticket.
  11. Sounds like the writing block has gone bad. You might try having Sony fix it, but it could easily run you the price of a new unit.
  12. Sorry to derail the topic. But why have I never encountered a problem with a Memorex disc, other than some grime that can easily be removed?
  13. I had a dream too. And Hi-MDRenderer made it a reality.

    Sonicstage

convert your MP3 to a wav, and try transferring that.
  15. Donated. Thank you, Marc. 3 Gigs of music @ 256 now reside in my HDD, free of Draconian Restriction Methods.

    Sonicstage

Is it constant Bitrate, or variable? If constant, what's the bitrate?
  17. Because Sony would be crucified by the RIAA and its own music branch. To them, each of us is nothing but a cutthroat, stinking opportunistic, heartless and unscrupulous pirate who will rob them of their millionaire contracts.
  18. Call me a jerk, but I think we need a sticky stating that SS doesn't work with Macs, until it actually happens otherwise. This question gets asked about every 6.5 days on average.

    Dvd To Minidisc

Sorry to burst the bubble. If you are trying to record the audio track of a DVD, it comes flagged with SCMS, and the MD will NOT copy it. Believe me, I have tried.
  20. Or use HI-MD Renderer to convert not only to Wav, but OGG, Flac, and Lame MP3.
  21. I think the only way as of this moment is to use Total Recorder, play the music through SonicStage, and recording real time.
  22. If he has his collection in ATRAC still sitting on the HDD, he can use Hi-MDRenderer to convert them to the format of his choice.
  23. Actually, I have had two Fuji discs suffer from chipping on the top side of the disc. When seen against a light source, they look like swiss cheese. And oddly enough, all that the Memorexes required was removing the debris with some air or lens tissue.
  24. Hi-MD renderer will convert your Hi-MD files to Wav, OGG, MP3 and Flac.
  25. I thought Ni-MH batteries didn't suffer from memory effect.
