Portable speakers??? why not just use an FM transmitter (very cheap now) or the Cassette adapter ( if you car has cassette) or a lot of car systems come with Line input now , check to see if your does , then it is only a matter of hooking a cable for the Headphone/Line out ( depending on unit ) to the car system directly . ( Big sound now !!!) ........ and it WONT be an iPoood

Turn your speakers /Mic down or off . Your mic is picking up the sound from the speakers . The Stereo mix setting , means any sound coming into your soundcard gets mixed , including the mic . If your on a Mac I can give you a better way to get You tube ,.... It is a Mac secret though heheheheheh!

How to build a Stereo Microphone and Battery Box

here is the manual for the RH1 , on the Remote known as the R-MC40ELK you can have Kanji displayed and selected . I bought my RH1 in Japan , and its display is English , but I can select from the remote , to display Japanese , (Option ,-> Language-> English/Japanese) http://minidisc.org/manuals/sony/Sony_MZ-RH1_user_manual.pdf Or go to Sony's Chinese site and download the Chinese owners manual there .

what language do you want it in?

RH1 / M200 = same machine

Do you intend to Upload to your computer or not . If not the choices get much greater , and then You will find a cheaper route to take , If Uploading is needed , well the choices come down to 1 ( hmm not much choice there eh!) so for AA's and non uploading , then it also would NOT need to be HiMD ,which then Hardoff here in Japan gets very interesting. http://minidisc.org/equipment_browser.html Browse that , then make a list of interesting models , post the choices , then you will get help.

RH1/M200 or if you want truely the best , some of the vintage guys who are from the very beginning of MD ( like me) The MZ-R50 was the Hands down best one made .

The thing about inner ear phones that seal , is getting the right fit (Plugs) and also doing the airplane thing ( Balancing the pressure in the ear , If you know what I am talking about , When your ears pressure builds up or is unequal Like in an Airplane , and you need to stretch the neck muscles to get your ears to "Pop" or release the pressure . That is how you get the absolute best out of the pressure fit type of phones (ie Shure) put them in . with the plugs that fit well and bring out the Bass, then sort of Yawn or strecth the ear tubes to release the pressure from putting them in place , The Mids , and Highs will pop right out and become much clearer as well as keeping the Bass intact .

How to build a Stereo Microphone and Battery Box
Strungup replied to greenmachine's topic in Live Recording
@440 , not all mics with TRS are stereo Actually quite a lot are wired for a seperate power supply so the the ring carries the power but tip carries signal , I just sold a Pro mic the The guy that does Yoga , that was TRS but wired for dual Mono and Plugin Power . @Jamedo if your Lapel mics have TRS plugs (Tip , Ring , Sleeve) go ahead and plug one into you MD and test record something , see if it comes out Left channel , or you get a Dual Mono . You will know if the mics are Stereo , because they will be labeled as such ( With L/R markings on the head) if they arent marked stereo they probably are not . -
AHHHHH thanks for the info , this is probably the main thing that was keeping me from upgrading to Leopard , I still think I want to wait for a few more updates on Leopard before I jump on board , Tiger has been running fine .

Actually I will agree with this one , I do appreciate that it remembers the settings as well.

The battery for the RH1 is more difficult to get , and the RH 1 is the one for Uploading Old recordings from earlier models of MD , the gumstick battery of the other two are cheaper and readily available, whereas the RH1 battery is about 5,000 yen here

I LOVE that game !!!! beat it with out the Book .

wow , ok cool , so how did you seperate the MD monitor from the Transfer prog , It loads both when installing . or did you manually remove the Monitor?

Borat , dude , you need to do some research . Dont take me wrong here ok , But Mic level and Line level are two different things. Mics DO NOT put out at line level . That is a serious misconception . Mics put out a signal that can be seen as almost line level , but you have to crank the recording levels way up to get that . Mic and Line , are two completely different Impedance's , Mic input , is for what it says MICROPHONES , Line input ,..... is for line level devices. square peg , round hole . What your doing at a very LOUD rock concert is OVERDRIVING a mic , so the output of the mic is hot enough at that point to be seen by Line , if you crank your levels . if you really want to hear what a line level recording thru a mic sounds like , Use a preamp , to get the Mic signal actually UP to line level . It will have a Completely different dynamic range and sensitivity , The basic concept of Microphones , is to be able to get what your ears hear,.... at the Same sensitivity or higher . That is a Pro mic standard. You don have to crank your stereo up to 11 to hear it ( only to like it ) you can hear it at 2 or 1 , a" Good" mics job is to be able to capture that level 1 sound , as full and rich as it can , and yet also to be able to deal with louder sounds without cracking up. You take that , and to access the mics capabilities , you have a Mic preamp (the Mic input has a Preamp built in) it allows you to adjust sensitivity, and dynamic range , when you are above the Mic preamps ability to control the sound , your probably also above the mics range and are now putting to mic under a great deal of stress , hence to need for MORE power (9 volts) to increase what is called the Damping Factor , or increase the mics internal resistance , Mics are built just like a speaker , but work in reverse , Sound pressure moves a coil , that moves inside a Magnetic housing , which creates an electrical signal , the Size of that signal is determined by the movement of the coil , Now watch a speaker when it is Cranked up very loud , stand to the side and watch the face of the speaker moving , Imagine that happening inside a Mic, not a pretty picture , especially when the diapghram of the Mic is only a couple of MICRONS thick and the coil wiring is almost microscopic . To truly get Rock concert levels proper , you need mics that are built for that job , each mic has different characteristics , and it isnt a one size fits all matter . If you used mics made for Rock concert levels thru the mic input , you would be very suprised at what you would get , Go to Internet Archive , browse the Live Recordings , and look at the gear that was used , most of the Recordists listed what they were using and how the set it up . Mics, Recorder, Input Levels, Adapters etc , then download and listen to some of the stuff , and compare it with what you have .

No self powered mics work fine , I use the Audio Technica AT-822 , all the time. as long as the mic is properly wired. Even UNpowered , or not NEEDING any power (as in Dynamic) mics will work .
