Ok , Oddball topic I know , but I think it would be great for newbies , and for the guy doing the wiki about MD to glean from . Examples : What remotes work with what units , and limitations of partial functions . Ex 1 : MZ-B10 , Business /Education model . It doesn't come with a remote, must be special ordered http://www.minidisco.com/Sony-RM-MZB10 the link to the remote . But I experiment with a bunch of other remotes RM-MZ3S ,Play Mode(Repeat, 1 ) Display name title etc. Pause , Play, FFW, RRW, Battery level all work (The B10 has rotary volume control ) BACKLIT DISPLAY!!!! . ( During Recording , "REC " Shows on the remote , Track # , time , Press Play Mode , puts Track Mark ) RM-MC12ELK : Play Mode puts Track mark during recording , Backlit display , All functions work (Volume not included) You can Pause recording without adding Track Mark !!!! ( Concert possibilities there) RM-MZ33 same as above but no display on the remote at all . RM-MC10L ( I think this was for a cd player) Controls: Play , FFW,RRW, Pause ,Sound((vocal emphasis)Sound 1,Sound 2,off) RPT , Playmode (1 track , or normal) Display Battery level , Track Title time , no backlight . ( During Recording "REC" is displayed on remote , Track number and time, and also Play Mode button puts Track mark) Sorry Ishii had to borrow it RM-MC40ELK ( Yes the Holy Grail of remotes) Controls : Play ,Pause,FFW,RRW,Stop,Play Mode , Press Jog Dial moves 10 tracks ahead( Group) BACKLIT DISPLAY !!!, Sound Set ( 1, 2, off) Battery Level , Track Title and Time displayed on Remote. (Press play mode while recording , track mark function !!!!!!) Also "REC" Displays on the remote with Track and Time ( no Time remaining ,only current time of track. ) RM-MZR55 Dont use this one with the B10
  4. I think you were asking for a 38 , I have two 35 's (RM-MC35ELK) cant help with the 38 sorry
  5. I will look thru my box of stuff , and see what I have , ( I have about 17 remotes) I know I have a couple 35's I might have an extra 38 as well. check wit me later , maybe tomorrow
  6. That really hurts , If you had more time , I am sure that one of the members here would accept you mailing the disc to them , and convert it to CD , I am in Japan , but would gladly do that for you , and send the disc back to you . The other way you could do this , is find a HiMD player only model , and record to the line in of your computer to Audacity , laborious I know , but it would work .
  7. I have the R50 , and Had the 700 , R50 = 6 volts , Tip+ , 800 milliamps (1 amp is ok ) 700= 3 volts , 600 milliamps , Tip+
  8. no prob , by the way I was born in Aurora , Ft Simmons Army Hospital right outside of Denver
  9. nope , to get mp3 onto the MD and have it playable it has to go thru MD Transfer , , you can store tham as Data , but they will not be in the registry that the RH1 will look in. If you transfer them TO the RH1 or whatever HiMD your using , thru MD Transfer , then the will play , but you will not be able to bring them back thru MD>Mac
  10. yes , record in HiMD mode , it wont matter if it is HiLP , HiSP , or PCM , but it must be in HiMD mode, then when you import it will come in as WAV to the Mac , you set that in the unit "Disc Mode " and format the standard md to HiMD mode you get more storage it goes from 140mb to 300 by reformatting cool huh! HiLP gives me 9 hours on a standard MD so internet radio , stuff like that , so I have all day jams to carry around , and it feels like I am listening to the radio instead of a recording , commercials and all .
  11. mp3's dont import , only stuff recorded in himd mode on th md itself.
  12. no using the MD Transfer 2.0 , then importing to iTunes to library it.
  13. Nope the PCM -D50 is DRM free dude ,
  14. Analouge signal "Purity " , ...... you said it , There is a video on you tube somewhere of an interview with Tom Sholtz of the group Boston , and he gives a fairly accurate summation , of what he hears when he put on a CD for the first time . See if you can find it . the Gold Plating on the RCA , amounts to very little, if the rest of the signal path is compromised . to really hear the difference , it would have to be pristine from point A (the source ) to point B ( the final output) but lets not turn this into a Debate , If I ever find another good condition R50 , I might send it to you , and let you play with it for a month ( unless you have something to swap me for it !!!! ) But I have the RH1 , and have the R50 , and I have A/B compared them on many occasion . The line out on my R50 and Line out on the RH1 , ............. I like them both , but the R50 , holds its own quite comfortably . Just my opinion
  15. Well Wiz , if you do not have an R50 , then you wont understand , and any unit that has an integrated Headphone/Line jack will NOT let you hear what I am saying , the R50 was a special unit . and the Line out was direct representation of what was on the disc , also do not forget that I am a recording engineer , so I am speaking on a different level here, the R50 circuitry would be needed to have to proper comparison made , between HiSP , and true SP . just defeating the Headphone settings , doesnt do it.
  16. Not on an MZ-R50 they dont , The R50 has a dedicated Line out that is seperate from the Headphone jack , goes thru a completely different driver , and it is VERY clean
  17. Just watched the Macworld 2008 Keynote . I went ahead and downloaded the new iTunes after completely removing the other from my system . It is a lot faster , and seems like they fixed quite a few things , Highlights from the keynote are the Movie Rentals , ........ I dont agree with 24 hours watch time (1 week would be ok) but the fact that I can rent movies from anywhere in the world , without a credit card or any other form of direct access to personal info , that rules. iTunes cards , are everywhere , and are same as cash . The new features , of the Apple TV , and what they have done for the iPhone and (god dare I say it ) iPod touch , actually make the thing useable . Maps with user location ( yes GPS , but WiFi based not sattelite) if they include world maps for every country , iPod touch becomes incredibly usefull Google maps with directions , and Turn by Turn guidance , just like the 3000 dollar car systems . in the palm of your hand , along with Movies and music , ( God me of all people saying something nice about an iPod , .........) Think about it , a foreigner visits Japan , or France , wherever , instead of looking like a total tourist , whips out the iPod , or iPhone dials up the map , "Oh here I am " ok type where you want to go , and VISUAL guidance direct to that spot . .................. While jamming to Rush "Moving Pictures" ok , I am sold , when that comes to Japan , I will get it .
  18. Would that be the 10p I now own?
  19. I want it and Wiz doesnt want me to get it ,because I am in Japan , and have Hardoff, Wiz , ItS" BLUE , I LIKe iT WAAAHHHHHH I WANT MY MD ( Ok pouting as hard as I can now)
  20. Hey Raj how bout a swap ? I have some rare Pokemon chips and can add stuff.
  21. 80 isnt bad if it is in good condition
  22. Dude I cant do PayPal , But I Like Blue So talk to me how you wanna do this?
  23. Hey Big get that for me , I cant do ebay , but I can do MO or some other satisfactory solution , snag it before someone else does.
  24. did you ever get the 822? @first poster : a small mixer (Tapco has a very nice small mixer single mic channel that will drive a high enough level for the Macbook ) and the recording will be as good as you make it . Audacity is a FREE piece of recording software that works VERY well on Mac. but , the only caveat is since your recording the Old Man , he will have stories to tell , that means TIME is involved , Time means Filesize BIG Files So you would need Huge amounts of Hardrive space My Suggestion , since you will need some ability to move around or record at dufferent times ( He may start the story at the coffee table , or the kitchen table , or the Park ( that is a GOOD place for storytelling ) a little mobility would be nice You dont want a bunch of cables , and have to set things up , (" Hold on Dad , let me hook up the mixer , start the computer , and uh , setup the software , ..oh yeah have to find the mic , crap wheres the cable , awww Sh&^& the dog got it , ...COME BACK HERE YOU MANGY MUTT !!!!! ) you get my point , and since you dont wanna go MD , I would suggest the Zoom H2 in the case , as it will record in MP3 format and has Built in Mics , so you can keep the file sizes down , and record anywhere anytime , I would think at the coffee shop or at Hardees ( where all the other War birds will be hanging out at breakfast , I used to go and just listen , sit 1 table over drink my coffee and just listen ) I can definately see the need to capture in this case as I also listen and at that time if I would have had the Zoom I would have that to share with my kid , even though they werent my relatives , they were the witnesses , first hand , of a great many changes to this worlds stage. That is worth keeping . bottom line Zoom H2 http://www.zoom.co.jp/english/products/h2/ By the way I have one myself and use it often , even though my main choice is MD and a very nice mic.
