  1. Bob ,... Your always the comforting soul arent you . I really hope that package gets thre quick , I cant find another one
  2. I think that would be wonderful , more Jam sessions , more people actually talking to each other , more people actually buying each other a Beer , and enjoying it rather than getting plastered and driving home killing someone in the process. I miss the Actual "Open Mic Nights" , of earlier times , where you had Musicians of every level getting together on a Saturday night and just having a good time , instead of all the Hype and bullcrap DJ hosted parties , and dance club routines . 250 musicians in a large bar/livehouse Doesnt matter what race you are , what your ethnic background is, what religion your into , your there for one reason ......... to Jam , thats it . And that took precedent over everything , very rarely would there be a fight ( and it would always be over a girl , not the jam ) There are some Open mics left in the US , I am trying to get the Idea of Open Mics going here in Japan , there are only a few , but they are more business venture than Open Mics , and they are in the heart of Tokyo . Music Industry = Musicians getting 10 percent ( if your lucky) of what they are worth , and some company getting the other 90 . Music Industry = Music you would rather NOT hear forced upon you because the idea of a Certain sound SHOULD be popular and an Image that will sell well is all that matters . Music Industry = Really good musicians playing in Subways , and train stations , basically being ignored because the Record company hasn't plastered a poster telling everyone that they MUST like this person , all over every dept store and shopping mall , tv commercial that they can market to . Music industry = Dead music , Music with no life no story , no meaning , no content , no reality . I sat in with Dizzy Gillespy , ........ at an open mic, I met Kirk Whalums Uncle , Peanuts Whalum ,......at an Open Mic ( absolutely wonderful human being , played with him MANY times after that ) Met Wynton Marselis at an Open Mic Jazz Jam The Jam session is where the Famous musicians becomes the guy next door , and it is where the best and most pertinent musical education takes place . It is where the amatuer gets pro advice and a glimpse of history in action , and a REAL expansion of mind and Spirit musically . The Music Industry Killed that .
  3. I have the Zoom H2 , The Rh1 , and a buttload of other gear , I am also on a Mac The RH1 works fine with OSX 10.4+ Intel and the audio quality is , well, Sony nuff said . The Zoom is cool , but....... Ideas and basics sure , but not for the Stellar final product I use my Zoom for making Guitar lessons , it has a Metronome in it that is pretty cool , and a Monitoring feature so that you can record ,say, a rythym part , then play it back and play the lead lines or Harmony parts and hear both (The Mics stay on ) The Zoom is incredibly usefull for stuff like that , And the Line input is very clean , so If you wanted to go from MD ->Zoom -> Computer upload ,that would work well . The Mics on the Zoom leave a little to be desired , especially if your used to using really nice mics with an MD . My RH1 stays connected to an Audio Technica AT822 the Zoom just doesn't go there . The PCM D50 , Wow what a machine , the more I research it the more I want it , it has a mic pre in it that is at least as good if not better than the MD's which says a lot . Plus a Limiter added before the A/D converter and smooth live Rec controls . And that Sony Sound . Cant go wrong there. But I will agree , if your a guitarist , you should have the Zoom in the bag , along with a Line6 Pocket Pod , what a way to practice !!!!! OH yeah ! If your a Recordist , Sony all the way and good mics . If your trying to be both , be very nice to the WIfe/Girlfreind/Mom etc , you know what I mean .
  4. BobS I beg to differ , I work on Guitar and Simple electronics for a living , todays new Digital Switching power supplies , will put out their rating with some of them, and depend on the unit to take only what it needs . It depends solely on the way the Power Supply is made , and what incorporated circuitry is in it . Transformer based supplies are notoriously bad for not being properly regulated . Transformer->Rectifier->Filter caps , and if your fortunate a 78XX or a 317T chip in it . if no chip then the voltage will fluctuate over a huge range as does the Line voltage it is connected to . Power supplies are listed with a Load Voltage rating , so if you test it with a meter and get exactly that rating , then you will probably be ok . But if you are getting a higher or a fluctuating rating , then there is no real regulation and I would not trust it with the RH1 , I have tried 27 different power sources with the RH1 and it is fairly finiky , whereas the older MD's with standard DC input you can get away with a lot more Battery packs and what not . The main thing I would worry about is AC ripple + Amperage , a really well filtered/regulated DC with a little higher amperage , ok I will go with you on that , but I would thouroughly check the supply first , and I am sure you wouldnt disagree with that .
  5. 1,5 Amps is a big chunk over the 800 ma , .. I would think about that one , the most I would put on the RH1 is 1 amp, even then it might show a "HiDC IN " message But you could try it and see if it doesnt give a funky message . Me personally ,...... that is a bit much .
  6. Meanwhile we can just send each other MD's . I have played for audiences of 10 , all the way up to 10,000 . I have had songs stolen , I have lost band members to songs they wrote for someone else.( one of the guitarist I worked with wrote the song "I hate everything about you " made famous by the group Ugly Kid Joe) .That is how I lost him , showed up with a hefty check and he said he was headed for LA . Screw the music industry , there wouldnt be a music industry without us musicians . There , I ranted .
  7. so like WHERE did you hear of them? You know what happened guys ,.... He probably read "2GB MD's " on another site somewhere and they were talking about Micro Drives not Mini Disc
  8. ok , yeah I got it too , PM Kurisu and tell him about it see if he can fix it
  9. try this http://forums.minidisc.org/downloads/download.php?file=21
  10. Well!................. that was a mouthfull , .. but a 600 for a buck , that WOkrs for me ! good job dude , dont be overly attached to the 710 , you will see better things come your way . MD isnt Dead , until WE are ! swaps and trades , will continue . by the way , I was reading a manual at Sonys manual archive , and it specifically stated "Do NOT let the computer go into sleep mode , either by accident or manually with the HiMD connected" Also stating " Do NOT connect the HiMD with the computer in Sleep mode , we will NOT gaurantee the perfomance or against damage if you do so "
  11. wow great deal , I wish I had the extra 200 , plus your probably not interested in shipping to Japan are you.
  12. Boom Recorder , is a full blown field recording app for Laptops , that records 8 tracks simultaniously so if you have a Firewire interface your good to go . If your on Mac , REC for Mac is a free , very simplistic 8 track recorder . but again requires the interface . USB generally isnt very good for multiple track recording. Firewire is stable about it , either way , you will need the interface to get 8 tracks in . here is a suggestion. http://www.rolandus.com/products/productde...mp;ParentId=114 this one is only 6 in 6 out but you get the idea. they have a level up that is 10 in 10 out . http://www.rolandus.com/products/productde...mp;ParentId=114
  13. Well , I broke down , and got Podded ...... yeah I know , POD that hated word , but it isnt your normal POD , ........You could call it an iPod , but that wouldnt be fair , or maybe a GPod , but that is to close to G String , and then people who dont know your talking about a guitar think your a perv , or you could called a PPod but that might be mistaken for a Garden issue , they called it a "Pocket Pod " ..... that just leaves open to many targets ... " Is that a POD in your Pocket or are you just happy to see me ?" Well if I had this POD in my pocket it would definately LOOK like I was happy to see you .!!! But I think this type of POD was actually before the iPod ....... so without PRODDING you anymore about my POD , ....... I will just show it to you ........(hehehehe I am gonna show my POD ) http://line6.com/pocketpod/photogallery.html
  14. well I seem to keep popping in , cant stay away . The house goes on ....... and on ...... and on
  15. It is possible that the memory and format system of the unit is corrupted , if the firmware is corrupted it has to go back to Sony , Musicians friend wont take it( I don't think .... you could try . If there was a glitch in the USB connection ( Voltage spike , Bad Data transfer, ) it might explain it , Voltages aren't always steady and the rare occasion where something can happen , apparently happened to you . If Sony said it was a Latin model it might have been made in China and at substandard conditions , in which case you could verify and then approach MusiciansF' and get a new one, maybe .......
  16. MD is basically MO , for archiving you could use MO drive and discs , slow but durable , and MO drives will be around for awhile , Hi MD is available in Home system form from Onkyo , Sony has stopped making MD , But as Oz said , MD is tough stuff , .......as for 20 years ????? my MZ-R50 lasted 10 before dying . So if you buy a stock of RH1 's or 200's then you would be OK . I am also on Mac , I use the RH1 with Macbook Pro Core2Duo , no problem . You have to Use HiMD Transfer 2.0 , (Version 1 is not safe , do not even attempt to install it) Audio quality , with the Audio Technica AT822 is superb . PM me with email info , we can get hooked up on iChat . I used to be a Studio Engineer .
  17. I was listening to Dream Theater on mine last night . SP is just fine with me.
  18. @green , no I didnt model it , snagged it from a page then edited it . @BobT , He has his winter coat on an their tucked , Just ask him!!!
  19. The EH50's are only 150 dollars new , why are you asking 225 ? They can be found for even less than 150 http://kakaku.com/item/20607010129/ take a look here.
  20. I have an E820 CD player , and can testify about the Sound of a portable . The line out and Optical out are very nice , Controls are a bit funky but , it sounds really good. For ease of control I use my EJ-855 most of the time (Big brother to the 825 ) and its a very solid portable , no complaints.
  21. Just the Idea of a Laptop with 8gigs of Hispeed RAM , and a 2 gig internal buffer , gets me a little exited ,Redirect to Video card and ..... 3D graphics will never be the same
