Format's demise leads to Australia facing massive Minidisc liquidation.

Is there ANYONE from Toronto here who's willing to help me purchase one minidisc? We can meet up and I'll pay of course.. If not I'll have to ask raji from Winnipeg to help me on this one.. and shipping is expensive, whatmore shipping -again- from Winnipeg to Toronto..

Please?

Hey, sorry, just so you know, I probably won't be ordering anything from this liquidation, so I probably won't be able to help you out as I originally said.

The prices are great, but the shipping charges cool down this hot deal considerably.

It's still a very very good price, but it's no longer low enough for me to purchase something I didn't really really really want that much in the first place. :(

Of course, if people have been waiting to find a good deal on these units, then it's still a fantastic deal even with the shipping.

EDIT: I wonder if the blank minidiscs etc are costing more than they are worth? I'd imagine that the shipping charges could be easily cut in half if the blank MD's weren't bundled with the item... That might make it quite a bit more reasonable.

Hardly cut in half, it's easy to test. There's always a 'per parcel' charge.

A bundle weighs 2kg and the shipping charge for me is $72AUD.

A MZ-E310 weighs 0.75kg and the shipping charge for that is $57AUD.

10 MD weighs 0.46kg, shipping for that kind of parcel cost $46AUD.

Aren't you nitpicking just a little bit?

Fine, it can cut the price by NEARLY half. :P

You can save $15AUD from the $72AUD shipping cost of a NH900 bundle if you forfeit the discs, the case and the ATRAC CD. The NH900 and the microphone could be inside the $57 shipping cost, that's if the NH900 pack with manuals isn't heavier than the E310 pack. Then you would have to drop the mic as well... ;)

Sorry guys, we do need further ID for international orders, this is no disrespect to you guys, it is simply a measure to protect our store from fraudulent orders. By opening the store to international orders you are also opening it to the nasty "customers"

In regards to shipping, as I mentioned before, the shipping rate is affected by the weight of the unit. The whole package weighs around 2KG therefore it cost a bit more.

I am seeing what can be done to slim it down a little. We could always send your orders by airmail which is much cheaper but there is no way of tracking and no form of responsibility from the courier

Edit: Yes the adaptter is locked onto 240v

In Canada, it is possible from Canada Post to have parcels delivered Registered, or double-registered, where one must sign for a parcel, and a receipt is delivered to the shipper.

Is such a service not available in Australia?

How much weight is the A/C adaptor?

How much could one save on shipping if one left it out of their shipment to Canada?

Well, I have to be doubly - or triply - identified by now... :)

One question and one observation:

1. The NH1 power adapter is the whole "Charging cradle" or just an adapter that plugs into the charging craddle ? I'm in Canda and I like a lot the idea of the craddle (ergonomically) instead of plugging in a 3rd party power adapter cable in the player.

2. The radio problem of the radio models: besides frequencies, there is something callled deemphasis that diferentiates the US and European radio transmissions (some sort of equalizing curve). somebody should checkout that to ensure that Australia and the buyer's country radio trans. are compatible (check www.fmtunerinfo.com maybe ?)

nh1 plugs into a cradle that then is attached to the power adapter, however it cannot be connected to the computer and be in the cradle at the same time.

I really, REALLY wish Minidisc Australia had updated their website FAQ to state they were accepting international orders. I read the website and arranged to have it send to an Oz friend who will then ship it to me, which is going to cost me more in the end. :(

When I read the website, it said that shipments were only made to Australia and New Zealand...so there was no use looking into any couriers.

At least with the bundled mic and the MDs (the CD will undoubtedly be stuff I consider crap lol) I will still come out ahead in the end...

I was quite impressed with the carrying pouch. It really is quite good, and just the right size if you ask me. Probably 'cause I wasn't expecting much, but it's a must-have, too. The bundle's a good deal on top of an already good deal.

Ideal for wayward travels :P

See, that's what I like to hear! :D

My Aussie gf bought the NH800 bundle and I've seen the case...not too shabby at all! I can only hope my Hi-MD unit/case fares as well as my trusty and indestructible Sharp IM-MT880 did through the Middle East/North Africa

so Sefu, any new news on alternate lower cost shipping methods yet? I wanna order just want to make suer I cant get any cheaper on the shipping though.

I'm waiting for the EMS guys to write up a contract with better rates, I was told its not a huge discount though due to so many overheads with international shipping.

The main reason of the higher rates is the bundle pack. I can take away the bundle pack and have just the unit shipped out which will be cheaper but I am unable to discount the price any further as we do not pay for the extra accessories.

Let me know what you guys think

No, I would not want to forfeit any of the bundle pack items, hat about just regular airmail? When do you think the new contract rates begin to apply?

I cannot offer regular airmail due to the fact that its non traceable and there is no way for us to prove to the bank that a shipment was actually shipped using airmail.

I should get something from the EMS guys in the next week. I dont think its going to be a huge discount, only a few dollars off

No problem, thanks for the effort, I don't mind waiting for an adjusted prce, any money no matter the amount saved from blowing it on shipping is a good thing.

OK,

149.00 AUS for bundle

70.00 AUS for shipping

40 to 50 US for power conversion

With todays conversion tables

the AUS dollars convert to approx. 161.00 total then add the power conversion you at or above 200 US. for the MZ NH600. Plus you have to deal with international shipping back if the unit fails.

I think I will wait.

Robert

Followup,

www.target.com

Major US retailer like Walmart, shows an MZ NH600D on their web site for 169.00 US. Not a bundle, but heck,,,, just for the convenience of being able to return unit to Target or send in to US repair is worth the lose of the bundle.

I guess its comes down to personal taste in value.

Our NH600 has a line input and remote port and the value pack is valued around $150AUD.

I think the NH600D has a remote port but no line input

A power converter shouldnt cost that much, locally in Australia it cost me no more than $20AUD. You dont have to get a Sony one, as long as it has the correct specs then any 3rd party one should work

Although not a huge difference, export customers do not need to pay our 10% GST

I know shipping is a pain in the arse, but again it lies in the weight of the whole package. I can easily slim down the shipping but you have to take away the bundle pack.

Im still negotiating EMS rates with the EMS guys so I keep you up to date once something happens

You can get an adapter at your local radioshack for about 16 or 17 dollars.

Still not a bad deal to turn me away from an NH1

Well, I had a mail this morning to say my NH1 had shipped :D - must say I'm a bit perplexed at the all the people here who think the shipping is unfair (ok maybe on the NH600 the shipping is higher as a percentage of the total cost) but to be fair it has to travel half way round the planet.. plus the bundle pack is good value imho... They still have some NH1's for sale in one of the more popular stores in Holland for electronics and they still cost 399 EUR!

I get a brand new NH1 - plus a mic (that over here costs 50EUR by itself), plus a carry case and 10 blanks and shipping as well all for 180 EUR - that's unreal

I got the same mail today as you did. Guess both our packages will be on the same flight!

I totally agree with you, it's a superdeal. That's why I ordered two NH1 units. Just in case one gets broken in the future.

Last week I also ordered the Onkyo deck via www.pricejapan.com. Today the postman rang, but I didn't hear it. Now I must wait till tomorrow. Can recommend this site, the service is very good and price is much much lower than on audiocubes.

Also compliments here for Sefu. He is really trying to satisfy his potential customers. I think his service is great, answering all our questions, besides his busy job nowadays.

Thanks guys :D

Its really nice to hear that you are happy with what we have done so far.

I will also look into insurance airmail, but from what I heard it only covers up to $100. I will check again in the morning

$2301AUD or some strange sum like that. But it's not so much cheaper, take a couple of days longer, and you may have to sign for it ang get it at the Post Office...

Edit:

For instance 3-5kg to Sweden:

* ECI Courier $120.50, 2-3 business days for delivery, insurance up to $5000.

* Insured Airmail $104 (plus insurance, I guess), 5-10 business days, insurance up to $2351.

Just wanted to happily report that I ordered my 2nd (aka spare) NH1 (since buying my original NH1 September 2004 in Singapore for AUD$550!) on Sunday and it arrived today!

Fast service guys. Love your work. Shame it's getting the chop here. Looks like I'll be going back to my old ways of importing from Japan, like I did with my MZ-R50, if another model should make its way out. :P

that 10% fee only for australia . . that's included in the price listed? i'm asking because i remember seeing two sets of prices. one with the 700 for $150 and one with it for $135 or so . . 10% cheaper. thought maybe it was a bug, but this'd explain it.

sefu, thanks for your work. i'm in the uncertain american crowd, too. but it's still cool.

i'm not really clear on one thing, though: for the nh1 with the docking bay, can you replace the adapter (for use with u.s. voltage) and still use the docking bay? or is the whole docking bay useless? thanks.

You can plug a Sony 6V universal adaptor with 100-240V input into the cradle for example.. The ac adaptor is separate from the charging cradle.

thanks. now only if the shipping drops and i can convince myself to get the expensive one. (i know there are various reasons why the nh1 is better and that's probably the best deal. just gotta convince my wallet-brain is all.)

Guys I have ran into a small hiccup with the international orders which has delayed your shipments, I am terribly sorry for this but this is what happened.

I received a call this morning from our account manager to inform me that Thursday EMS deliverys were being returned back to us due to the strict guidelines us Aussies have to go through when exporting. The problem is that the batteries are considered as "dangerous" goods which may cause explosion on the flight.

I am waiting for the specialist to give me a call back on Monday to see how I can get around this.

I am really sorry guys for this hiccup, I didnt think international shipping will run into so many problems.

I will let you know the outcome when it becomes available.

For now, it looks like the free battery charger + batteries that comes as the bundle pack with the NHF800, NH700 and NH600 will not be able to be sent out due to these restrictions.

I am checking to see if the gumstick batteries are ok to send.

Did the NH1's make it out of the country lol - they don't have any batteries in the bundle pack?

My 2 cents

At the moment, Personally the batteries, battery charger and disks are not of little interest to me in the bundle. The mic and case are definately worth it though. As would extra HiMD disks. I know the point is to clear stock, but I reckon for international customers the potential weight saving would be worth not including the batteries, charger and disks. I don't care if it doesn't effect the bundle price. I suppose though you might as well get them if you are paying for them anyway. You never know it might make me keep some music as SP. Obviously if its a unit that takes a gumstick battery then that, and the AC charger are required. I haven't got around to ordering yet, but thanks Sefu for keeping us informed. Its appreciated by many I'm sure.
