The little metal or plastic "slider" on MiniDiscs (the thing that slides up to expose the disc surface), what is that technically called?

Sony has 1.5 TB MiniDisc storage.
Sony_Fan replied to Sony_Fan's topic in Technical, Tips, and Tricks
Even at 1/5 the size, it would be a 240GB Minidisc, Sony can still revive this format with this type of read/write storage. -

If Sony can reduce this to the size of a standard MiniDisc, imagine the amount of music it can hold. This new type of MiniDisc could be used a new "B-MD" recorder/player. -

$20 shipped. Reminder, online passcode is NOT included. You can still play online for free but only until you rank to level 5. Passcodes are available on ebay for less than $5.

If you have an old computer running windows XP, use that instead. That's what I use with my NetMD units.

Better CD optical ATRAC SP/LP2/LP4 recordings
Sony_Fan replied to Sony_Fan's topic in Technical, Tips, and Tricks
When you rip a CD to MP3 and then measure the volume with MP3gain, it will show you if the tracks have clipping. When you reduce the volume of the MP3s, the clipping is removed. This would apply to ATRAC SP, i'm assuming. -
I emailed him as well, but no response yet. I wouldn't be surprised if it's sold.

Better CD optical ATRAC SP/LP2/LP4 recordings
Sony_Fan posted a topic in Technical, Tips, and Tricks
If you have a music CD that is loud, when doing a CD optical recording, you can lower the recording volume on the minidisc recorder down to 22 or 21 (the default is 23). This can eliminate clipping and distortion if the CD source is too loud. I just tested this with ATRAC SP and Michael Jackson: Off The Wall (remastered version) and it sounds great, like it was pre-recorded in the studios. Also, if you have a CD that is too soft, you can raise the recording volume to 24 or 25 with no distortion or clipping. I did this with the Forrest Gump CD soundtrack. On most minidisc units, you must turn off the Sync Recording, then adjusting the recording volume, then turn on Sync Recording. -
Where are you buying them? How are you paying for them (credit card, bank account, debit card, cash?)

If anyone is in this, contact him quickly!!! I don't know if he'll do paypa/shipping. It's says cash only. http://chicago.craigslist.org/wcl/ele/3751838241.html

Oh, are you interested in some vintage Sony 60min minidiscs from the mid 1990s. They are still sealed.

$23 shipped.

Hi. You could use any brand or style of minidisc. They all store music in 1s and 0s, and the sound quality will be the same. Personally, I sell off my "rare" minidiscs because they all record/play the same like regular minidiscs.
-
Then this might be for you. He is selling a total of 45-50 prerecorded Minidiscs with an old minidisc player. I offered to only buy the minidisc albums but he didn't budge. It's still alot of money though: http://columbus.craigslist.org/ele/3735121126.html

Honestly, I"ve used this feature and I didn't notice any type of volume leveling when playing it back. MP3gain is the only software I know that will certainly make a difference in tracks being made softer or louder. If you are burning MP3s to an audio CD, then use MP3gain to set all the tracks to about the same volume and then burn to CD with SonicStage. MP3gain claims that there is no change in sound quality when adjusting the volume.

http://philadelphia.craigslist.org/ele/3708144742.html Make this guy an offer to pick them up. I was going to have them shipped to me but it's too expensive. He was willing to take $245 plus shipping.

http://newyork.craigslist.org/que/emd/3730528958.html Anyone in the area, here is good deal to pick up!!!
-
I don't think anything bad will happen. I think the warning to not use them is when the car is moving.
-
I'm assuming with sudden bumps on the road, it could cause the pick up lens to touch that small part that the brush is embedded to. This would probably scratch or damage the laser lens.

The red light signal that comes out from optical outputs from CD, DVD, Blu-Ray, PS3, Xbox 360, computer sound cards, etc, is it all the same sound quality (assuming a standard CD is being played)? In other words, if I do an optical recording to minidisc from all of these devices with the same CD being played, will the sound quality of the recordings be the same?
