The manual for the 105FX states it uses Atrac Type-S DSP.

Rest assured the Onkyo components are very high quality and fully backwards compatible. ( I speak from my experience with the Hi-MD bookshelf - but I have heard good user feedback on both Onkyo Hi-MD decks too). I don't think you need to worry about the SQ with the Onkyo I'm pretty sure it will be at least as good as the Sony if not better.

It's the same on the EH1 with the 40ELK - the options according to the manual are: Kanji First Kanji & Kana They are only relevant I think if you have the main unit language set to Japanese.

I actually took that picture for the MDCenter.nl review and that is my remote on there. I just had a couple of hours to review the RH1 with Marck but the first thing I tested was the 40ELK remote. Like 1Kyle says I didn't go through every option for recording, but as far as I could see every display mode was the same for the RH1 as for the EH1 / DH10P which I also took with me. You'll see that photo also highlights the "dn" sound option for Dynamic Normalizer (exclusive to the RH1) so I would say it works pretty well. [attachmentid=1818]

At the moment it is to upload Hi-SP / Hi-LP / PCM recordings (RH1 only) to the Mac. The new version will hopefully include download of MP3 and Linear PCM (no atrac) from Mac to RH1 (and possibly other units). We don't really have any definite details at the moment though.
