I've been looking around for a relatively cheap (used) 4-Track Cassette Recorder that has dedicated line-outs (one each for each of the 4 channels). I have an abundance of old 4-track cassette recordings that I have been itching to archive, but the only 4-track cassette recorder I have access to doesn't have dedicated outputs. The dedicated outputs are a necessity as I need to have all 4 channels synchronized while creating a backup/archive. If anyone has one they would be willing to sell, let me know and we can discuss details. Also if anyone comes across one for sale, please point me in the right direction. -

Those things are FUN! They take awhile to get the hang of, but cool when you do. Truthfully I just bought four mexican jumping beans!

TOC Cloning is a good workaround. Though not everyone has access to the equipment.

Yeah I was a bit surprised myself when I tried and it worked. Overall the plugin isn't incredibly stable, and doesn't support tags or anything, but is a start I guess. Also as far as good ol' standard Atrac, not sure if it would work. Really no way to get standard Atrac on PC to try it.

There is a wealth of information here in the forums regarding using Minidisc for live concerts. If you run into any problems or have any questions/suggestions/etc, the community here is great and we are always happy to help out. Since it can be tricky business, here is a link to the Live Recording section of the forum: http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showforum=18 Even if you are experienced at live recording, there are some tricks and tips in there that may be helpful.

Welcome to the forums. Download "Hi-MD Music Transfer for Macintosh v2.0" from the downloads section here in the forums. You can then drag .mp3 or .wav files into the program's window to transfer them to the unit. http://forums.minidisc.org/downloads/details.php?file=95 (the login is the same as the one you use here) If you installed the version that came with your unit, uninstall it and install this newer one. I'm unsure if the older version supports this feature or if it only allows uploads and not downloads.

Actaully it does play Atrac3+. Try it out.
-
Also be careful how you carry the unit. If you press in on the eject button it will reset the unit. Happens easily when carried in a pocket, etc.

Yes, welcome back. A lot has changed in 8 years.

You have two options: 1 - Remove the track-marks prior to uploading using the t.mark button (in play-pause, move to each track and press t.mark to remove the track mark). 2 - Highlight all of the tracks in SonicStage after uploading and use the "combine" feature under the edit menu. Be sure the tracks are in order before doing this. Unfortunately the unit will automatically add track-marks when there is silence during a line-in recording. No way to disable this "feature".

Score! Thanks for that info Qwakrz, I never knew about that! I'll be using the RM-MC40ELK alot more now for sure.
-
The only feature I miss when using the MC40ELK is the "group -/+". Otherwise it is a fantastic remote. For some reason I am thinking the RM-MC32EL was made for CD players... If so, it probably won't have all of the functions that the MD remotes do.
-
Have either of you tried reinstalling MDAC completely? This sometimes will work when the repair tool fails.

Actually now that you mention it I remember seeing a post about this and service mode (but when selected some other feature was disabled if I recall correctly), good call.

hmm.. (perhaps this topic should be split?) Personally I was always under the impression that the SP-compatibility mode was in fact actually LP2 in a wrapper. However, after some thought and a bit of research (older material pertaining to OpenMG software and netMD units) I have come to the conclusion that this may not be in fact the case. And further investigation may be useful... http://www.audiotstation.com/forum/showthr...p;threadid=4748 http://www.minidisc.org/NetMD_faq.html#_q83 Now, this states that the netMD units are fed PCM data, and that data is recorded as SP on the unit... Is it not possible/probable then, that a WAV file imported into SonicStage is sent as PCM to the unit for SP encoding (and not encoded as LP2 first?)... I say this because PCM transfers werent available until Hi-MD, which was introduced later. Prior to that anything sent out of the software had to be encoded as LP2/LP4 to work with netMD. I'm at a loss here, but it would be great if the Hi-MD units actually record true SP when transferring. I would still like to know how the units that do not have the legacy recording feature on them (RH10/RH910) do this anyway..

Interesting... How is it that units that cannot record legacy formats (MZ-RH10/MZ-RH910) do this?
-
Here you go: http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=7070 In short, you won't be able to upload digitally via USB with your unit. At present, there is only one unit that will upload those older recordings, the MZ-RH1. The thread mentioned has info on getting your recordings to your computer via analog in realtime.

The SP is actually LP2 anyways, just in an SP wrapper. Shouldn't be transcoding from LP2>SP.

You can choose whether SP material is transcoded to Hi-SP or imported as PCM.
-
Enjoy your new unit, it's a great piece of hardware! And welcome to the forums!

There shouldn't be any transcoding as long as you are transferring the files "as-is". Though it is SONY we're talking about, so who knows for sure.
