I think you have a very particular taste for analogue. It is quiet interesting actually, haven't used non-digital ways of storing music so can't comment.

Right, I just did a comparison between a LAME 192 mp3 (straight from cd) and the the subsequent track converted to 132 Atrac3. I failed the ABX test (could not tell which is which) using SonicStage 3.0. I would like to hear what you people's experience with this? Would imagine going from 320 Lame mp3 to LP2 might be hearable, but 192 and below, do you notice the difference? Also, what does Type-S decoder do, is there a hearable difference (anyone abxed this)? Thanks

I had a MagicGate MS 128 (Blue color), and SS2.3 did not work with it. Only with the white ones (older standard). Strange it was.
-
It was stored in the ID3 tag, perhaps. (Version 2 allows album art). I have all of my mp3's with art, one the advantages of using iTunes.
-
About 70 sounds right. (LP4). You are loosing quality though.

Just let it lag. To be honest, mine lags when transferring to NetMD but it is still just about usable to use iTunes in the foreground (Ultra Low Voltage P3 laptop, so quiete slow). What are your specs?

Mz-rh10 Makes Cnet's Weekly Top 20 Gadget List

Is that a good reason not to buy an iPod? LOL! -
The 3 line remote is pretty nifty.

I sort of agree that there has been a change in strategy from Sony. Top of the line unit is big and non-recording (line-in) for the first time. No HD amp in the RH10 is puzzling to say the least as well. But there is one solution, give us updated firmware for 1st gen units and it is sorted (I will take lower bat. life on the NH1 for lower ebay price).

True true. -
3.0 is pretty nice. Faster and better interface, but still no smart playlists. Hoping for them in the future.

So, what is the final word for us UK users? Is it worth it to install this, or should we wait for our own version?
-
So 4x Dubbing is not Type-R? Is there any linkage on this? I think you might just be right anyway, since Type-R is esseantialy a 2pass encoding process.
-
I have seen 5x true SP dubbing, maybe there are even higher.
-
Well, my comp takes the same time to record to lp2 and does a bookshelf to record to sp. Around 15 minutes for a CD.
-
Hopefully when the new units are released, so guessing around April time.
-
Nothing can play Atrac3 apart from SS and it's brothers. Re BeatJam, it seems more of the same regarding heaviness, just wait for SS 3.0 and that will bring hapiness hopefully. EDIT: I was wrong, WINAMP plays ATRAC3 files with the Liquid Audio plugin. Thanks Kurisu.

I think we have seen all the details before, nothing new is going to be known after 2nd of march unless the 4th unit will a get a mention.
-
Only use tapes to copy them to minidisc

I was going by the 128 multiformat listening test on HA. http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index....showtopic=21904 I never tested it myself though, results could be possibly be affected by Type-S DSP, who knows... Plus on the presentation page, they don't mention what version of what encoder they are using (whether it is SS or some other program). Apparently SS2.3 has got some improvements according to a few tests on this board comparing hardware vs software encoders.

Ever Print Your Own Disc Labels?
Michael1980 replied to daremo's topic in Technical, Tips, and Tricks
Would it be possible to put the screenshots somewhere in the forum? I am thinking of ordering a 373 and would love to see what M-Crew offers in connected mode (I have downloaded it anyway, but it does not do much yet). -
Mp3 Conversion Tool only converts to Atrac3Plus (someone correct if this is no longer true), which is incompatible with your NetMD unit. Also NetMD does not allow to transfer songs from the unit back to pc. I still don't get why you get a distortion when converting mp3's to atrac3plus though. Does that make sense?
-
So you have problems with mp3 files that you have converted to ATRAC3Plus correct? Not with files that you have recorded in your HiMD unit and transfered to pc?
-
How can I get out of it? I thought you just pay every time you want a "refill" giving new credit card details each time. Yes, but would you not agree that it is a bit of a hassle having to re-encode later on, since support for musepack is really low in the dap world.

Well depends on the mp3 player I have never even seen an Iriver H10, so can't comment there.
