White Noise - was more of a bad Sony ad! Yesterday I saw Le Haine. VERY good movie.

Whats Next for Mini Disc: Share Your Ideas

What would be cool if there were a mixed-mode standard for MDs ... So that you can have your ultra-compatible MD with SP and MDLP recordings plus a part in Hi-MD where you can either store files or use it as Hi-MD audio part. the "enhanced MD" so to speak! -
This is no new format, just a CD made of other materials in a new way - just like HQCD and SHM-CD.

agree. we're thinking people. and should accept people not following our religion! So please, Chris, be tolerant. MD is not the absolute ultimate truth for everyone. I'd stay with MD ... because of its longevity, independence from computer etc. But more or less it's a state of mind. -
Don't forget how bad the E10 sounds, it has no HD digital amp like the EH1 and the E730. I didn't even know of the E730 before! Is it a 2004 model? Howsoever: You just made yourself a powerful opponent! Want-one!!!

1. FLAC ! 2. OGG 3. MP3

one bug I know of: the SonicStage 3.x/Onkyo bug. Titles made with SoS don't appear correctly on the Onkyo Hi-MD decks' displays.
-
This is indeed old news. sry. there is a full-fledged manual out there somewhere - IIRC in the static content of minidisc.org.

The remote controls for my SACD and Hi-MD decks are more than enough - and I don't use them. I don't have a listening room with a table for RCs next to the seat meters away from the loudspeakers. In fact, I normally sit very close to the loudspeakers and when I really want to listen to music I put my headphones on. I already had the Sony SRS-ZP1000 in my stereo but transfered them to my DVD player that once too was part of my stereo system. Nice, round, bassy sound ... but not very audiophile. They also tend to distort in the bass area so I had to put a cable volume control between the speakers and the dvd player.
-
flexibility. can hook them up to anything. and i don't like amps. ??
-
I took a look at these before and they definitely look interesting but I'm only using active speakers. my next big purchase will probably be 2 GENELEC 8030As Oh no, this is my first bass!!!

Takamine TB-10. Got it yesterday. What a great instrument.

the ultimate experience: recording vinyl to MD! -
But if it's a cheap turntable with built-in amplification, PCM and even 352kbps is not justified.
-
afaik the 352 kbps bitrate was part of the Hi-MD standard since day one. My Hi-MD deck (2005) plays it as well as my EH1 (2004, 1st generation). So, every ATRAC3plus bitrate should play on every Hi-MD unit. The only thing to still be cautious of is MP3 playback. Only the RH1 will REALLY play MP3s properly. The second generation - as we all know - has limited SQ in that regard. (In fact, the only GOOD sounding 2nd gen device is probably the DH10P.) I think he was talking about a normal pre-amp not a "phono-pre". rgrds.
-
the difference is exactly 96 kbps! you have to have the ears to hear the difference. try for yourself. or you are a perfectionist or something. then even 352 won't be an option (PCM will).
-
The only sense of 352kbps Atrac is to have "higher-than-SP" resolution audio material on Hi-MD. If you want to keep the audio on your computer, FLAC is the way to go, or Vorbis for lossy encoding. If you want to have 352kbps on your Hi-MD, download is the only option but you don't have to convert each track manually. You can do that with the transfer settings!
