OK when you get a prerecorded disk and a completely blank MO (metal-oxide) disk in hand, we can proceed. It's not a lot more complex than: - make sure the mechanism doesn't have any obvious faults - get into service mode and follow the directions for "Overall Servo adjustment". Shout when you are ready. I think if you sent only the unit, no battery, remote etc it's not that expensive to mail. I'm in Canada.

The self-calibration will do most of it. You just need a virgin recordable disk as well as one CD disk (prerecorded MD). The latter is the usual sticking point for people in your situation. I may be able to help but you'd have to send it here for a look-see.

In haste (I was on the way out the door, can add more later): 1. Don't use "Connect" software but install SonicStage Ultimate from this forum 2. You need to be a power user or administrator (depends on your version and edition of Windows) Don't worry about deinstalling anything before installing Sonic Stage. It should do a reasonable job.

Yeah, you probably fixed it mechanically speaking by tweaking the mechanism. However doing a 911 means it's out of alignment. You have two choices: 1. lie to it and tell it that it's been aligned by fixing the status byte at 24, to FF ("Assy" on the LCD to be sure you have the right byte). From service mode Vol+(up) -> "Manual", Right(FF)->" 0 10 Laser",Up->"0 20 ResNV",FF four times -> "0 24 Assy", 2. Do a real alignment (not that hard with pre-HiMD units).

How thoroughly weird! The only obvious place they (and all the other HK vendors) will ship to seems to be France. Maybe you can prevail on a friend there..... This one looks better http://www.ebay.com/itm/US-DC-6V-1A-Switching-Power-Supply-adapter-100-240-AC/320886332144

His email works. His mail works. His phone should work 2pm to 8pm every day. He told me that he only answers it during those hours.

I updated the (old) details you gave. Check it out....

Someone probably bust it by trying to insert a disk the wrong way. Sadly, that's all it takes. There's no quick fix. Your other post mentions an M10, which are you looking for?

You can check the fuse. But more likely is to leave unplugged from the mains for a while (long enough to forget about it).... you may be surprised it comes back.

Decks seem to do quite a lot of cleanup especially of analog signals that portables do not.

At least you can verify that the greyed out files play ok if you copy them straight to the device. The advantage of this is that now your ZX1 acts as a backup for your hard drive and vice versa, but of course to fit all your files you're going to need the ZX2 with its microSD slot You'll still have the folder architecture using Drag n' Drop. 1. You don't need to do anything at all with AAL files. They will, under SS, be stripped during transfer. 2. Once a file has been marked as "non-transferable" (or whatever) the only way SS will ever deal with it again is if it is deleted from the SS database (it's a very old version of MIcrosoft Access) and then re-added. It's not enough to recreate the file in the same place with the same number of bytes and the same contents. So moving things (eg to an external drive) will be problematic unless you use the Sysinternals JUNCTION program, like this: "JUNCTION C:\sonicstage\importedsound J:\sonicstage\imported sound" or whatever fits the bill. The other way is to do a full export using the backup and restore functions built into Sonic Stage - but I suspect you are well past that already. They require some server at Sony to be up, IIRC, generally speaking this is true (ie it's up) - except that for AAL the whole encryption thing is irrelevant to start with. However the restore will still always require the server. 3. There's a flag in SS 4.3 (not that it isn't in 4.2 - I just don't remember) under "Advanced" which says "Alter the file names when changing the title". It's global. This will affect your efforts at editing track titles. 4. If you want the files to play in the right order on the ZX1 (ie the one you have showing in SS), you are best to put numbers on the tracks eg 001-, 002- etc. before import. The transfer will render the order showing in SS completely useless, as it only knows alphabetical. 5. FCT doesn't matter for AAL files. It's important for most others, and removes (forever) the encryption. However as noted ubiquitously the current versions of VLC are able to play all encrypted and unencrypted ATRAC files (except AAL).

Do you mean "lossless" instead of "lossy"? Using SS (4.3) the lossless ones will all be stripped of the extra leaving regular ATRAC3+ 352kbps when transferred. You can try good ol' drag and drop and all the files will play, hopefully. They may turn up in a different place (Folders rather than Albums). However if you have REGULAR ATRAC3+ 352kbps (from the CD rip) then you may need to unprotect some of the files using File Conversion Tool. The usual reason for greyed out is that you have Read-Only access to wherever you have stored them. Eg across a network. Hope this helps.

In the words of Winnie-Ther-Poo "crustimony proseedcake". (work that one out if you don't know it already). You need to turn off driver signing enforcement. Only possible from boot (F8) in Windows 8. Once installed, no need to keep turned off, ie it's an installation time thing only.

I've never gotten into aac, so you can tell us how you fare. It appears that SS is willing to import it. The specs for ZX1 indicate that it's willing to play it. Even if SS doesn't do it right (eg insisting on converting to something else) you should be able to drag and drop directly rather than importing to SS first. I've no idea about Media Go. Since I already have two ways of getting files on the ZX1, I feel like I don't need a third.

gb and GB, heheh. 1,000,000,000 vs 1024x1024x1024 Android is big though. You have a full fledged almost-phone in your hands there......

Very unlikely. More probably something about your Windows USB hardware. If there's really a problem with unsigned drivers, I'd expect a logical error message. None of Sony's current products require special drivers AFAIK. One more thing, I'd be inclined to send them both back and get something from the ICD-SX series (712,813?), or possibly the NW-F885/6/7 (must get Japanese model if you want to play ATRAC files yourself rather than converting them).

Here's one for $10.... only problem, you get an MZ-R909 as well! http://buyee.jp/item/yahoo/auction/h203725546 (Don't forget to click on "English" at the top of the page if you can't read Japanese) You can pay more than that if you want, and get only the stand... http://buyee.jp/item/yahoo/auction/h203449660

I think you may find the BCA-WM10 works fine with the R909. It also charges the R900 and several others as well such as the E505, E707 and quite possibly N707. Also the R91 (and probably R90) except that the unit ends up upside down

Expect to pay $50-100 http://buyee.jp/item/search?query=lip-4wm

I presume you mean the CMT-M100MD? http://www.ebay.com/itm/SONY-RM-SM100EB-SYSTEM-AUDIO-REMOTE-CONTROL-CMT-M100MD-NEW-/181287074155 If not, then you must mean the MDS-M100: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Used-Sony-Remote-MDSM100-RMD29M-141827011-MDSJE330-MDBUNDLE6-/111362055218 (added later) OK, my turn to apologise - there really is an MZ-M100, which is just an MZ-RH10 in mufti. But if you REALLY want the remote from this device you can pay $150 to buy it from amazon. It's worth about threepence and doesn't even have an LCD screen. I've probably even got one of those (the correct name is RM-MC60, I think) here but if it's for the purpose of reselling or refurbishing a complete MZ-M100 then this conversation is effectively over (ChrisG where are you? LA I always thought). Perhaps your problem is a dead OLED, for which I sympathize. In this case you will need something with a screen. Almost any of the MD remotes will do, if you check the topic a bit thoroughly on this board (use google to search as the search term MZ is too short for the local site search to comprehend, just add site:sonyinsider.com after the request), you'll find there are plenty that fit the bill. I am going to say right now: a. we don't email people - this is a discussion board b. we expect that you are as good at using Google as we are (or at least will try). You could have found something in 10 seconds. Thank you, and welcome to the board where we hope you will be a long-time and useful member.

Ooohhh something else I just discovered. I laid out for the (overpriced) dock, the BCR-NWH10 (it will set you back between 100 and 150 bucks/euros/whatevers). Got fed up with the insertion mechanism for the WMPORT which is on all walkmen now. The unexpected payoff is that there is a two position switch on the dock: - in position A, ("PC") it communicates seamlessly as USB both for charging and copying or SonicStage-ing - in position B ("Digital out") there is another USB which can be taken out to any old $10 USB-to-optical converted with excellent results (sure, Sony wants you to buy their "DAC" but if I only convert to TOSLink why do I care that much?) and now I can play from the dock into my stereo without any software at all. The A position works on the Android Walkmen (NW-F88x, ZX1 etc) as well as the NW-S75x series. (note, not the non-Japan NWZ- series). The B position only works with the Android Walkmen.
