Gumstick with AA sidecar, I suppose. Look at the 4th photo you can see the (customary) terminals.
-
My point exactly. The fact that the surround to the remote looks bronze is suggestive that it's reflective coloration. I am sure I thought the same about the NH1 based on their pictures. Even ones that people take and post in Ebay.
-
hmmm. I have seen photos like this EH1 before. I don't think the colour is real, but just reflected from the ambient light. Same thing happened when I tried to photograph silver units (eg NH700). They take on some other colour in the photo.

by and large, what format are your recordings in? Anything lp2, lp4 that's been uploaded can now be played with VLC or ffmpeg thanks to the work of some clever people "somewhere in Europe". That is, you no longer care about the encryption. However, I would strongly recommend putting everything back on your old PC and running the FCT from there, if it's not too late. Also never let a week pass but check your library contains no tracks that are encrypted. If you save CD tracks in Atrac Advanced Lossless, there's no encryption, but it's probably too late for you for that. There's another trick which may help. Rather than trying to restore backup, do a :junction: with that external hard drive. Like this: junction importedfiles Q:sonicstageimportedfiles You can find junction on the Sysinternals site (now part of MSFT) if you don't know about it. The result of this is that the external drive appears to be part of your hard disk. As to the authentication server, historically it has been up and down a fair bit over the last 4-5 years. Maybe you were unlucky for some reason.
-
It probably CAN be fixed (Jim Hoggarth) but I would counsel you to look at something newer. Many improvements were made to ATRAC to make the newer models perform almost unrecognizably better than the Codecs built into the first few models. And you probably don't have to pay much. Of course, if I am speaking to the converted and you just want to revive your museum piece (for whatever reason), that's a different matter. But for practical purposes, an ultra lite portable, or one of the decks, or perhaps a combo (all in one) Bookshelf unit including MD might be just enough to make you happy. I grant that if you really want optical out, you will have to be a bit selective about decks, but at least half of them had it, and the other half of them can have it added quite easily without being a total electronics whiz. If you want to upload to PC, then the MZ-RH1 ($$$) is the way to go - but don't make the error of using it as a portable, however wonderful it appears. Its value is in the ability to upload, and there are other portables which sound really good and routinely sell for under $100 on Ebay. Welcome to the board, we encourage everyone to tell us about their gear, it's fun to read.

Save the R91 for charging (and reviving) NiMH gumstick batteries.
-
Simple. The RH1 is the only one that allows uploading of the non-HiMD formats.

NH900 Read Error - but plays all pre-recorded immediately

There are AT LEAST 4 settings for laser power. There are two ways to set the laser power a. using the all in one self-align and a set of disks b. using a laser power meter. It's a servo-regulated system, so "just" tweaking it mostly won't help much. You have to get them all right. For example if the laser power output went down, you have to change ALL the thresholds UP. -
Make sure you install the 64-bit drivers and run SS as a "native" application. This will be better in the long term than installing it as a XP Virtual Machine app, which is indeed possible for Windows Ultimate (The SS "ultimate" and WIndows "ultimate" are in no way connected!!!).

Here's a link to the Coby http://shopper.cnet.com/radios/coby-csmp165-clock-radio/4014-7875_9-33318789.html Assuming you're correct, that's quite interesting. Coby are known here for their region-free DVD players for very low cost, and as you can see this is a $49 item. No wonder he doesn't want to sell a modified dock without the HiMD unit !!!!!!!!!! It might indeed work nicely but what sort of service would you want (never mind get) in such a transaction? Cost of shipping the unit very far will be exorbitant - and then instead of a major company you have one guy, as your support option(s).

That is cute, but the only unit in that LAM series I might spring for is the X1 which does HiMD. However, Jim had one in for repair and he says that construction-wise those are not very good. I'm happy with my Onkyo (X-B8) but already looking over the shoulder to the day when it breaks (see Richard's post ). That's the problem with all-in-one gear, I suppose, one thing breaks, the whole thing is rendered inoperable.
-
Well I just corresponded with the seller (at least the seller's wife). This ended with "do you want to buy or chat" which seemed to me like a pressure tactic. I don't respond well to pressure selling. 1. The HiMD unit is not detachable, and it's not possible to modify an existing NH600 to go in the base. According to my correspondent. 2. They have more than one unit (of course). 3. As soon as I asked details, I sensed canned excuses. I don't think anyone is going to properly specify this product. Support is another issue. In the light of Jim's ongoing concerns about HiMD from the POV of maintenance, I *might* have considered this if 'twere backed by a reasonable warranty and the corporate might of Sony. The whole thing sounds like a pig-in-a-poke, TBH.

check driver. You may have to "update"
-
Plug main adapter into the unit, forget the charging cradle for the moment.
-
MD only support 32, 44.1, 48. Period.
-
If you re-read (I just did) the specs, it says that each cartridge holds 12 optical disks. I think that means the 1.5TB happens to contain 12 Blu-ray disks.
-
Probably you have to surgically remove all NetMD drivers and start again. Let us know, it's quite simple if you are of a mildly technical persuasion.
-
Agreed. But something less costly and better supported will come in due course, methinks. What I am not clear is whether this thing holds 12 x 1.5TB or whether 1.5TB is made up of 12 120GB blurays.
-
I want one! I have been considering how to back up large quantities of data for a while. This fills a significant hole. Bluray is available but too small in capacity. Bravo Sony
-
It should work. Most likely you have to upgrade the driver FOR THAT UNIT. Plug it in and without trying to do anything, do a driver update to 760

Odd gaps/silence in transferred music.

Glad it starts to make sense. Curiously the HiMD units do a better job of transferring to "legacy" disks than you might expect. -

IMHO the slow USB on "real" NetMD machines and very fast PC's like present day ones is a bit of a mismatch, like trying to mow the lawn with a modified Ferrari. Unfortunately there are some timing issues which Sony got around in stuff about 10 years ago, but as USB got faster and faster there may tend to be problems like this. I'm not saying you can't get around it, but I have seen this, and I'm not surprised. HOWEVER: I strongly recommend plugging your NF610 to its own power supply. It may well be that the power drain on a rechargeable is too much, especially since the TOC has to be written, and there is extra overhead (on a blank disk) when making transfers, at the start. Second best would be a sidecar AA battery, which should be Alkaline (not NiMH rechargeable). The NE410..... sorry but you're out of luck. Best to try that with a much older PC where the timing loops work and don't cause so much power stress on the setup because the whole thing goes a bit slower.
