I wouldnt publicise you have a RH1 as u may get mugged for it. They are in some quarters more desirable than ipods & some try and sell them on Ebay for £1000 .....
-
wow what makes me laugh is that the people trying to sell at these silly places still try and extract further money for postage and packing.
-
ah had forgotten that - hmm max 13 hrs not bad for spoken word
-
wow look at this one http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Sony-Walkman-MZ-RH1-Personal-MiniDisc-Player-/181136514915?pt=UK_CE_Portable_Audio_Portable_CD_Players_ET&hash=item2a2c93df63 only £800 lol when I got mine it cost £215 I think the seller almost comes across as if he is doing the buyer a favour lol

Any one know where you can get them (in the UK) I havent been using my md for the last 2 years or so and just looked back - seems like the supply of hi-md has dried up? I looked at Ebay and nearly had a heart attack at the prices some punters are dreaming up. eg http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3-x-SONY-1-GB-Hi-MD-Minidiscs-Made-in-Japan-New-still-in-original-wrapping-/200921053990?pt=UK_Sound_Vision_MiniDiscs&hash=item2ec7d3fb26 I do have 9 myself - seems like I have some gold stored away? Seems like I will have to make do. I think when I bought them they cost me about £30 in total

I came across this article while looking around the web. dates from 2012, so not long ago http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/why-i-still-love-the-minidisc-opinion/ some very nice comments here what minidisc meant and means to quite a few people .

from the BBc news website so must be true - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-21297024 Sony to make last MiniDisc stereo system in March

Azureal, the component that will edit atrac audio files is a separate program called Sound Forge Audio Studio that you can buy separate, and is included. I think though that the Vegas Movie Studio part will also manage atrac files. The whole package incudes the DVD Architect you mention. The Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum Production Suite 10 I just bought is not the latest though, thats why it is cheap, but the Sound Forge Audio Studio component does seem to be the latest - It is a realy good fast editor
-
On Ebay from UK there are copies of Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum Production Suite 10 that include as a separate program ,the latest I think, Sound Forge Audio Studio 10.0 http://www.ebay.co.u...984.m1423.l2649 all for 23.99 UK pounds incl postage. Delivery for me was next day and very fast As you all know I expect, Sound Forge Audio Studio is one of the few editors that can load and edit Atrac files Get this and get a decent video editor thrown in for free

The only NetMd deck I know is the Sony JB980 which I have - I only ever used it a few times as Net MD as performance is poor compared to many portables - transfer is very slow. It is also expensive to buy 2nd hand ( in the UK any way ) The JB980 is a nice deck, but not for its NetMD feature. A cheap portable maybe the best thing here for net Md - the Sony MZ-NH600 does a good job - it also does Hi MD

well things are getting a bid weird. I just looked at Ebay and some one trying to sell just the labels that come with minidiscs lol I dont agree about prices going up - I think the time has passed for that. Soon they will become junk shop items like old PCs that no one wants
-
wow I am astonished at some of the prices being quoted. I picked up a load of Sony Coloured series a short time ago in the UK from Sainsburys at

the only cloud I can think of would be that from a pipe ,as in pipe dreams....

our best MD decks : what CD player are they equal in sound quality ?
freddyjollo replied to PhilippeC's topic in Minidisc
well I still have my Sony CDP-XB930E. It should be possible to pick one up cheap these days. Nicely made, and sounds good (to my ears) It has various filters to shaope the digital stream. Same pricing level as the 940/980 minidisc. The distinctive thing about this player is that the cd is held flat by a heavy metal magnetic puck, which rests on top of the cd near the centre - so you need to make sure it comes with one. I understand that getting a replacement is very expemsive. This player has the links that allow you to copy cd text. It is quite heavy. -
dont really know but looks like u bought a broken md unit? maybe the remote has been plugged in so many times the socket is damaged and shorting?
-
I just tried my RM-D10E - came with my Sony JB980 MD deck - that one also has the Synchro buttons and also works. So u are probably correct, if it has the Synchro buttons it will work. (As you know the JB980 dont have the A1 control system!)
-
yes you do need the RM-D49M remote to trigger cd text interchange. I made up my own mono cable ( not hard if u can use a soldering iron and have a Maplins nearby ) You press the CD-SYNC STANDBY button first - this starts up both cd player into pause mode and also the MD into pause record mode. Then you press the CD-SYNC START. I cant say anything about different standards and problems, but I would have thought if the Sony CD player will display the text, then it is transferable? I still use my old Sony CDP XB930-E May not try get a remote from Ebay? RM-D49M is the one u need. Shouldnt be that expensive.

obviously a Monty Python "Life of Brian" Fan - "And what have the Romans done for us..." joke

I dont use minidisc as much as I used to. In days gone by I used my decks to record all the comedies available on BBC Radio 7. I now have most of them and since they are on a repeated cycle the job is done. Any stragglers I use Radio downloader. A really great program. I then listen to them on a cheap HP NC4200 subnote book I bought for a measely

well my SLUG has been going now non stop for must be 3 years now and has never put a foot wrong. very nice little device. The Seagate external hardrives ( those grey brick looking ones ) have also been solid, they auto spin down after a short time so the ideal addition. hate all the wires though.
-
I use an old now obsolete NSLU2 with 2 attached external drives attached to the usb. runs a small Linux os , not very powerful but fast enough for audio. This is really a NAS, but I know some one who installed a music server on it and stores all the music files on a large flash usb stick attached. cheap answer. I just make an icon to it and open it as a net work drive on my notebook. works well. very low powered, no fans and the size of your hand, doesnt get hot. http://www.nslu2-linux.org/

well I have been going around the house seeing what power various devices use - Sony JB940 - standby 0.7 watts. Idle disk loaded 9.3 watts. Playing 11.2 watts. Sony JB980 - standby 0.3 watts. Idle disk loaded 7.2 watts. Playing 8.6 watts. The JB980 ( the last deck sony made ) some very nice figures. Sony really did a good job. In either case they really dont use much power in these Green conscious days.
-
dont know about the problem, but I think the 555ES is standard play only. So if you use LP then no.
-
well we should all remember that the top surface of minidiscs have a lubricant for the recording head, which is in contact with the disc. Who can quess how long before that goes off and what affects that has?
-
well lucky you have a choice of getting a JA333ES model - I very rarely see them for sale on Ebay in the UK - wish more MD ppl would give up the format so I could get one lol. What ever the MXD-D400 is like having a 333ES is just as much about pride of ownership. I think it is probably the best of the ES range - ok the other ES ones are better but they only sport SP.
