Oh my goodness! Check this out! I found a picture of the MZ-RH1 being compared to the MZ-1 (the first ever Minidisc recorder) and there is a RED MZ-RH1!! I found it on the Sony Japanese website and it appears to be an interview with the makers or designers of the MZ-RH1!

I bet the red colour was just a prototype test colour!

Keen, good find.

LION, you've been promoted. Expect a 90% pay increase!

Pay increase? Hmm. What's 90% of 0?

I'd imagine that it's not terribly expensive for Sony to offer several color choices for their products. Maybe someone can create skins for the RH1, and then we can all have whatever color we want.

The Red looks nice doesn’t it! Although it could get a bit garish after a while!?! Would be a nice change though. Maybe a red spray can from Halfords should do the trick ;) …..I noticed that the Red one has a slightly different walkman logo or writing on the bottom half of it!? …Anyway it’s come on a long way since the MZ-1 hee hee!

Can’t wait for it to come out in the UK!

Being red it should go faster and so may reduce battery life :(

I thought that too. It didn't look like the standard silver finish. Wouldn't be surprised to see it turn up in one of Ishiyoshi's awesome pictorials.

The more colours the better, with colour co-ordinated top ends not just black.

Well, if you're that desperate and whilst we wait for the official pictorial from Ishii ;) - here are a couple more pics (for a v. limited time only - because I don't want to steal his thunder):

My first Sony portable player, a Walkman II that I bought new in the summer of 1982, was that same color of red. I thought that it was the coolest thing ever. It took two AA batteries and had an optional external battery pack that held two D cells. With homemade metal tapes it didn't sound half bad, either.

If they offer an RH1 in red, I'm in.

The red one would have been pimp!!! I would like to have one to go with my red HD-5. Awww... too bad. I am still going to get the black one when it is released here in the US or becomes available to ship to the US. The black unit is still sexy. Damn Sexy

Nice translation and according to it recording is done to ram then bursted to the media. Interesting, as this should also act like an anti-skip for recording.

LOL. Anti-skip during recording? Shocking!!! You're joking right? :lol2: Welcome to 1992 and MD technology in general. The MZ-1 could do that (of course the buffer was much smaller).

During RECORDING? I was under the impression the anti-skip was only during playback on at least one generation of Hi-MD.

Nope, it's been there since the getgo. It's required for even the beginning of MD--in order to be able to record in different sectors of the disc, if need be, buffering is required. Take a look at the format whitepaper from way back in the day and you'll see. Also most decks had "Time Machine" recording which had to use that as well.

Buffering during both recording and playback have always been a mandatory part of the MD standard. ;)

This is why most MD Decks (not sure if the feature existed pre-NetMD), including my JE-480 can grab the last 5 secs if u missed the start or something important. :D
