  1. What color is it? I am interested, already have one but it's a winner. Please email me some pics - rosmith@ns.sympatico.ca
  2. It sounds like the overwrite head is cooked, or it's a weak laser. I'd simply give it a good whack by hitting it on its bottom, as it's not economical to repair. Sometimes you can put the laser back in alignment, but it doesn't sound good. How old is your NH900?
  3. Audio Cubes sell the EH50: http://www.audiocubes.com/category/Home,+P...isc_Player.html The white one looks great with that matching white remote.
  4. Despite Sony's claims on working life of their NiMH gumsticks, I can get about a year and that's it. This would be classd as a "maintenance item" for MD units, like getting new tires for a car.......
  5. I had the EX90's for a couple weeks, a major disappointment in absolute terms. If I would not have had the 888's as a comparison, the new Sony buds would have been fine. Output is noticably softer than the erstwhile E888's and isolation is no better. I just ordered a second set of 888SP's as I want these for storage - they still are Sony's top Fonotopia-style heapdhone, long live the king!
  6. SOLD!! Taking the money and getting a second set of 888SP's, I'll keep them in storage.
  7. About two weeks ago, I splurged on these new Sony earbuds and am very unhappy with their performance plus my earwax tends to clog the mesh grills. I have decided to sell them, as these will be a source of anguish if I keep them. I am asking $60 USD, shipped, anywhwere within Canada or the U.S. using either country's postal system. I can accept Interac email transfers if you live in Canada or you can forward via PayPal if you live south of the 49th parallel. My email is rosmith@ns.sympatio.ca FWIW, the erstwhile MDR-E888's are still the earbud king. If you need any seller reference, simply log on the Audio T-Board as I am one of its senior Mods. Thanks.
  8. Woo hoo! We had a short power outage, last night. I went home around 8:30 PM and turned on the D5C. It went through its usual diagnostic check with the CD changer. and I decided to give the MD deck another crack. I popped in a disc, and, voila, up came its contents and all is well! I played a few different discs, everything is peaches and cream. I was right about the fact I must have screwed it up by putting in a disc before the CD changer completed the self-diagnosis; I'll chalk this up as being very fortunate and my faith has been more restored in Sony than ever before...... BTW, if the D5C is left to idle, a cool "light show" commences after about 10 minutes, as the great display shows off the deck's functions, and behaves like a demo, with messages and what not.
  9. Due to the loading mechanism, I cannot use a lens/head cleaner while it's faulty - it's totally unlike a portable in that regard. I think I will drop off the deck to a place about 25 klicks from my home, he does authorized Sony repairs and I can take him in a copy of the service manual. If it's not over $200 to repair, it's well worth getting this back up and running.......
  10. I posted this over on the Orange (actually yellow!) Board and wanted to see what the good people over here at the MDCF thought about it. Well folks, I was going to pop in a disc into my trusty MXD-D5C changer/recorder combo, last night, and there came a message on the display after the device tried reading the TOC - "C13 Read Error." I checked the manual, and it suggested I keep trying. Of course, the manual also says if the problem persists that I should contact a Sony service centre. The D5C was not brand-new, bought it in 2002 and hasn't been used that much, maybe 50 discs made. The CD changer sections works perfectly. It rarely even use the thing but it's handy when I have a MiniDisc that some of my church friends want a cassette tape from, such as a concert. Of course, I can simply use the PC and SonicStage to create a final-cut MD and no longer use the deck for editing and what not, and I think the deck can play burned CD's so I could make tapes. The question is this - is it worth trying to repair? It has been humid the last couple weeks, maybe it might right itself, but it doesn't seem likely. Has anyone else had a C13 Read Error message with their Sony deck?
  11. The MDC price of $359.85 CDN seems to be a much better deal, although our dollar is quite strong against the USD........It seems the silver one has little appeal.
  12. Surely, you can addicted to buying these little toys - I just ordered my 11th unit, an MZ-NH700 (actually 13, if you count a couple in Hong Kong - long story) I wish there was a cure for this disease.
  13. The charger circuitry in the E10 seems to be cooked. Sorry. This is a common ailment with lithium-powered units.
  14. The G74's are surprisingly good street syles cans. I use them for my bike exercise workouts after my KSC-35's calfed and they are better in many respects. Will sweat shorten their lifespan?
  15. I my experience with using the NH-14WM for the past five years, it is somewhat overrated and doesn't last as long as Sony claims especially for MiniDisc recorders. I never use the in-unit charger nor the stand, opting for an external wall charger, but, a year or so is the max I can get from them. Fortunately, my legacy recorders all use the same AA cell pack add-on so I can get around a long recording session.
  16. I want to chime in, here, and vouch for how immaculate musicman's gear is - I bought an N910 from him a while back, it was in perfect condition, with the screen protectors and all. The $250 for all of these units is a steal.
  17. The body shell of the N1 is made of magnesium, similar to that of my R910 and NH1's. Feels a bit plasticky, but is a metal.
  18. It would be fruitless for Sony to make "another" NH1 unless there was something dramatically different about the RH1; is there anything in the new SonicStage 3.4 that would lend itself to an enhancement with a new unit? How about a live recording upgrade of some sort?
  19. I used to have the silver D22's - gave them to a special lady who enjoys using them, today. I do miss them as they are a tad smaller than the D66's (which are superb!) and often wish I had them back. I might get another set before they totally disappear. Great photos, BTW.
  20. I cleaned out the cache of temporay files in SonicStage and, hopefully, that will make a difference next time I try to rip a CD. I didn't realize there was so much gunk in there!
  21. Windows XP - I guess you assumed that. Sorry. I have Service Pack 2 installed. Would a re-install make any difference or is this a hardware problem with my CD burner?
  22. 1.8 GHz Athlon processor, 512 MB RAM, 80 GB hard drive. After trying to import as a WAV file in SS, I managed to get 97% of the disc to transfer but had to abort the last track; it seems that I got a bit further than I did using SB but still could not get it, totally. At least I can stop the importing (and thus save the Hi-MD blank) if I get a freezeup without crashing the PC, as it did when using SB. Whatever, I simply accept the fact some CD's will be a problem. Such PC->MD transfers are not terribly reliable from my experiences.
