  1. I still use my decks. As Borat said, "that big stereo sound you just don't get from portables." I also like the extra editing options on decks such as "fade out".

    Sharp MT-15

The mt-15 is from 1999 so it does not have any way to interface with your computer via usb. Here is the link from the equipment browser to read about the unit. There are only two or three units that will interface with Apple computers and the units are all Hi-MD recorders.
  3. I tinkered with one this afternoon and brought a disc to listen to using it. I didn't find it disappointing but did find the price to be discouraging. I'll let a few months pass for the price to drop before picking one up. Of course department store pricing is going to be the high cost spot. There is a reputable seller on e-bay BuyFromJapan who sells the rh1 for 60 usd less than the stores are asking.
  4. It says 1400 on the corner but on the package face next to "1.2V" it says 1350. Is this typical?
  5. No optical output on this deck, standard analog. I'm looking at the spec. sheet and can't find what makes this deck 300 dollars more expensive; signal to noise ratio is the same, both are 24 bit sampling, frequency response for the 480 is 5-20kHz +/-0.3dB while the 580 is 5-20kHz +/-0.5dB. Size is the same and convenience features are the same; timer standby recording, mdlp, sampling rate converter. According to US sites, the 480 has MP3 playback so maybe Sony is charging more for the truthful advertising of the 580 which makes no claim to play MP3.
  6. They did, the mds-je580. Not much difference from the 480 except for the extra 300 dollars in price.
  7. also, what model are you using? Only hi-md will allow you to transfer from minidisc to computer via usb-cable.
  8. There is no optical-in on this unit as I've looked at it before at the local electronic stores. Unfortunately there is no member on this board who has one to write up a review for it or at least they haven't admitted to owning one.
  9. Rich is correct that the prices on first generation Onkyo Hi-MD units are dropping. The x-b7 which is now 39,800 en was 55,000 since its introduction until x-mas when it dropped to 45,000 en. The other Onkyo Hi-md shelf units have also dropped in an equal proportion. Just to note, the component decks md-105 and md133 have not dropped any but you can find them for less than the 35,000 and 53,000 en prices of Yodobashi. Onkyo also has a hdd box like Sony and so ya know, none of the hard-disc units have an on-board Hi-md player. You can plug your hi-md recorder into the box and upload or download to your heart's content but you can not stick a hi-md disc in the play-drive and have it play. Another note about the AnyMusic units; they connect only to a music service called Labelgate/AnyMusic. It may be like Sony Connect and allow to download only from designated areas; in this case only inside of Japan. I don't know that yet but Sony Connect sets a precedent that you must consider.
  10. I don't think minidisc is experiencing a revival rather I think md is finally being recognized for its primary purpose of recording and archiving. Until the advent of the popularity of the hd and flash player, md was viewed as a portable listening device but people were focused on the portable listening aspect rather than the recording aspect. Now that the portable listening aspect has been stripped away we are left with its primary function which people overlooked/ took for granted before.
  11. I can't help you as I am not familiar with the stuff but I do know that you will be asked to post your system specs., so the sooner you do the sooner someone who is knowledgeable can help you.
  12. It is something like 63 or 64 different settings...I know it didn't go into the 70's. Dolby Headphone system: Studio / Live / Dome / DolbyNor DSP Surround system: Labo / club / arena / hall DSO EQ system: heavy / pops / jazz / dance / vocal / rock / soft / custom user there is also the three step bass boost and off so 4 settings in that catagory. The 63 or 64 is gotten by using variations of the above such as studio set on bass 2 and pops vs. studio set on bass 3 and pops; these are two different settings. To enter bass settings, have a disc in and stop the playing. Click on the "sound" button. When you have the bass settings showing in the window, click sound again and Studio / live / etc...will then show. To look at eq settings, press sound so that DolbyNor / studio / etc shows up then press group button for 5 seconds and you will access Labo / club / arena / hall. To toggle between these, once again press sound button. If you got the manual with the unit, look at pages 17, 18, and 19.
  13. KI, does it effect first gen?
  14. I'm experiencing the same as you. I can plug the xitel optical into a netmd recorder or into a stereo and it plays and can be recorded. When I plug it into the rh10, the unit won't allow me to enter recording mode. I can toggle between a digi-line out of my sound card and the rh10 works fine but stick in the xitel and nothing...
  15. Using the prior models as an example, dh10 and mz-n1, I do not expect the rh1 will have a lip-4 cell because, according to indeego's find, it has an add-on cell case. The two units that do use the lip-4 do not have an add-on cell case because of voltage something another...
  16. Yes, you can edit your legacy bitrate md's with the rh10 or any hi-md recorder.
  17. Wow, records in atrac 3 and 3+ bitrates. I thought that it might only be Hi-LP, Hi-SP, and PCM. Also glad to hear that 352 can be played. These sound like great components.
  18. It is the finishing price that matters. These decks haven't finished at less than 40,000 en for the past few months. Sure, there is the occasional 38,000 sale that occured on a Tuesday or Sunday night. 40,000 en is less than the department store asking price of 53,800 but telling someone the price starts at 19,000 (171.00 usd) is not a good indicator. In fact, this vendor usually starts off at 500 en.
  19. Garcou, what bitrates can you record with the 105?
  20. Why would you expect a sales-rep to know the ins-and-outs of a device that is not a popular seller. Like you, he would probably need to read the instruction manual to learn how to divide, edit, etc. At least you have a unit to experiment with... The md-133 and md-105 have standard RCA analog inputs and outputs and two digi/opti inputs. They have no digi/opti outputs nor usb connection. Neither are full-width components but they aren't the same size either. The 133 is 275mm in width and the 105 is 205mm in width.
  21. Depends upon what qualities you consider to be better. Both the 930 and 70 have the hd-amp. The body of the 930 is brushed aluminum while the body of the 70 is not brushed. The 930 weighs 103 grams with the battery and the 70 weighs 98 grams with battery. The battery life of the 70 exceeds the battery life of the 930 by several hours.
  22. The 105 has two optical inputs. Push the input button and change your input source to the other digital line.
  23. 13-17 for both indoor and outdoor, but I don't often use it as a listening device.
