If you could find one of those, you will be very lucky indeed - they were extremely scarce to begin with - Japan only, limited edition, only available though the Sony online store. Beautiful looking unit though.

Poll to determine future policy on posts promoting eBay Auctions
Richard replied to Richard's topic in Classifieds
Ok, well our 10 days are up and it's time to count the votes. Not a massive turnout it has to be said, but for those who did vote, the results are in... So with a score of 11-5 (or 11-3 if we eliminate the duplicate votes) the result and policy of the forum going forward is that "We won't allow topics promoting ones own eBay auctions at all on the forum" Any such topics will be deleted. We will update the Classifieds forum to include a sticky to remind everyone. *Thread closed -
Poll to determine future policy on posts promoting eBay Auctions
Richard replied to Richard's topic in Classifieds
I don't think anyone is doing this out of spite or expects you to "sell cheap" on this forum. Some people may or may not agree with your prices, but I think the crux of the question was whether we want to see the classifieds section fill up with pointers to eBay auctions. I created this poll to at least try and arrive at a consensus in a transparent manner. Maybe that was being over optimistic... -
Ok, thank you. I think we will put the curtain down on this particular thread before it gets out of hand. We have a poll running to decide what to do with eBay auctions in the classified section. Let's wait for the outcome of that and steer clear of mud slinging. * Topic closed

Poll to determine future policy on posts promoting eBay Auctions
Richard replied to Richard's topic in Classifieds
I don't believe there are any formal rules to that effect. Thankfully we have never really had to resort to a long list of do's and don'ts unlike some other forums I have frequented over the years. That said I can see that some people may get annoyed by people posting links to sales in their signatures and it may be portrayed as spamming - the reason for this is that your signature is something that appears on every single post you make and if every single post you make has a link to some commercial activity it can rub people up the wrong way... Hence the reason why things like pointers to eBay sales are usually confined to a single thread which people can add to over time - that way for those who are interested they know where to look. For those that are not interested they don't have that link in their face every time they see one of your posts (even if that is not the intention). Therefore to sum up, I would say maybe give it a miss.. -
I'll try and keep this short, simple and hopefully as neutral as possible. There has been a fair amount of discussion of late as to what what we should do with posts promoting ones own eBay auctions. A few of these started to crop up in the classifieds section. This I believe was not what that section was originally intended for. The aim of this poll is to determine should we allow posts promoting ones own eBay auctions in the forum and if so where should we put them. I'll leave the poll open for a week, maximum 10 days. Based on the results we will review and take action. Thanks for taking part.

Yes you can - we even have a pinned thread for that kind of stuff here:

That cable definitely has a weak point on the connector to the unit. The covering on one of mine split as well. I have a couple of extra ones in boxes somewhere. Just for reference the same cable was also used on the DH10P and the NH3D and possibly the N10 MDLP unit.

I haven't really used the DLNA although it did pair nicely through NFC with a bluetooth speaker we have in the kitchen (just touch the 2 devices together). Did you manage to get an Atrac capable version via Amazon US then? If so, good catch. I got mine through PriceJapan who I have used for quite a few things over the years..

Hi Stephen - not sure if this one was directed at me, but the ones I meant were these: http://www.sony.jp/walkman/lineup/f_series/ and of course the ZX1. I have NW-F887 and use either FLAC or Atrac3+ 352k on most of my albums. Pretty happy with it so far - especially when paired with the XBA-H3 headphones which I got from Amazon Italy here

Yes that's right. If you want ATRAC as well, you will have to get one of the Japan models. I assume this is also true of the ZX1 as well as the NW-F88x series.

The latest Sony Network Walkman series will play FLAC in addition to WAV (including 24 bit files) and DSD audio.

If you look at the properties of the track in SS it will give you the location of both files. If I recall all the converted files by default go into a folder called "Optimized Files" which is a sub folder of wherever your main library is located.

The only small weakness in the EH1 was that the print on the back of the unit can wear off quite easily over time. You can see this is starting to happen on this one on eBay (where it says HD Digital Amp). Apart from that I always found that contrary to what you might expect from looking at it, the EH1 was actually very hard and well built.
-
The EH1 was only available in Japan. I can't recall what the original retail price was, but it has obviously held its value fairly well.
-
The MZ-EH1 is indeed a thing of beauty and a great Hi-MD player. In my opinion it is possibly the best looking unit ever. There are quite a few pictorials if I recall in the pictorials sub-forum including my own (That also reminds me that there are quite a few pictorial threads that had the image links lost when the gallery was upgraded a few years back - we need to see if we can fix them).
-
If I remember correctly I thought this was a second generation player that came out after the first wave of Hi-MD Units (NH900 / NH1 / EH1 / NH3D). From my recollection it came out in 2005 maybe just before the DH10P. The EH930 did also have the HD digital amp.
-
Just to confirm the ZX1 also has an English language option available on the device out of the box. I have the next model down, the NW-F887 which has all the same audio support, but only 64 GB of storage and the amp is slightly different. That said, it is a great unit. Much better than any other previous Network Walkman I have had. I can confirm that the units support all flavours of Atrac and Atrac Advanced Lossless, and they also support drag and drop FLAC and WAV lossless files as well. Software-wise it does come with a new piece of software called Media Go which is ok, but doesn't support Atrac transfer. To transfer Atrac you will need to use the X-Application software which is only in Japanese, but pretty easy to figure out if you have used Sonic Stage. I use this if transferring Atrac files, or other wise just rip to FLAC using Exact Audio Copy and drop the files on the unit via Windows Explorer. Let me know if you need any other info.

Yes the file size when viewed on the player for an AAL-256 HiSP file of 5:49 in length was 29.7mb whilst the same file in regular Atrac3+ 352k had a file size of 14.8mb. I can't really hear a lot of difference I have to say when quickly scanning through the track. I never really got into AAL and most of my library is still in regular Atrac3+ 352.
-
Well, I finally got around to checking this out, but I'm not sure I can answer the original question definitively. I can confirm the A-808 plays AAL fine, but I can't figure out either if it is playing the true lossless element. The file size on the player when viewed via X-App or explorer looks right, but I am not sure what the hardware is actually doing. On another note, I had forgotten how small the 808 actually was.. Kinda cute..
-
I will have to check this. I actually have an A-808 - never really used it much. I didn't think it played AAL, I know my NW-A847 does, but have to confess I never tried it on the 808. Will check it out and let you know.

Tommy (aka Bland10000) is a great guy, although it's been a long time since I heard from him. I may still have his email address somewhere. I bought quite few Japanese blanks from him back in the day. He was also the source for my blue NH-3D - he managed to find a brand new one a couple of years after they had gone out of production.

Hi, I would recommend going to somewhere like Crucial for extra memory - you can order online and it should be easy to install yourself: See: http://www.crucial.com/eu/store/listparts.aspx?model=VAIO%20SVE15113ENB&Cat=RAM Be aware that to take full advantage of memory greater than 3.5GB you will need to be running a 64-bit version of Windows.

Hi, I think the main concern is the warranty. The power adaptors would normally always be 100-240v input and you would just need a plug adaptor. I am not sure if there is a way to purchase an international warranty in Japan that doesn't require shipping the unit back to Japan in case of repairs. That would be the thing to investigate / weigh up the most. For the language, I think you can choose when you buy the unit (if you get it through Sony JP website) whether you want English or JP Windows. Alternatively if you had the Japanese version of Windows 8 Pro you could download the English language pack later. I am really attracted to the Vaio Pro as well (although I really don't have the budget right now), although like you am not sure whether I would prefer the 11 for extra portability or the 13 for slight better options on the SSD / RAM configuration.

Ok, so I finally got back to the old laptop and effectively confirmed the same issue. That machine is Windows 7 Ultimate and has the Japanese language pack installed. The version of X-appli is the old 2.0 version, but all the UI displays perfectly fine and the tracks in the library on the computer all display the artist and track titles correctly. However when the tracks are transferred to Hi-MD then they are just showing up as ??? in the connected device window and on the remote of the player (RM-MC40ELK connected to an RH1 in this case), I will upgrade the X-Appli to version 5.0 anyway but suspect the behaviour is the same. It's probable then that it never did work correctly on this machine - damn! Edit: I then downloaded Microsoft AppLocale from http://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/download/confirmation.aspx?id=13209 You need to right click on the downloaded .msi package and Run as Administrator. After it has installed, run Applocale and get it to run the X-Appli exe from the program files directory as a Japanese non-unicode program. It should create a shortcut, which if you look at the properties looks something like "C:WindowsAppPatchAppLoc.exe "C:Program FilesSonyx-APPLICATIONx-APPLICATION.exe" "/L0411" I then ran X-Appli from this shortcut and re-transferred the same track to my RH1 and it worked fine displaying the Kanji correctly in the transfer window and on the remote of the device. The AppLocale solution was also what I remember we use to used to run the old Sonic Stage "back in the day"... Let me know how you get on or if you need any help
