I have 9 HiMD discs of which I reserve 3 for recording purposes and 6 are filled with great tunes

as greenmachine also mentioned I didn't really need that much, I got by with the one that came with my NH900... but then I saw minidisc australia's offer on ebay and couldn't resist the shiny blue discs. I ordered 5 thinking I would have more than I would ever need. At the exact same time my sister and brother in law bought me another 3 (older opaque) 1gb discs just cause they found them in a shop and knew I had a HiMD and that the 1gb discs were pretty hard to find here in Belgium (yes, I have very nice relatives, I know :lol )

so now I have 9 and I think I will only be buying more 80 min discs from now on

I also have 9 Hi-MD discs. About a year ago I bought a five-pack of the regular grey ones. Then I occasionally bought single discs from RadioShack (grey), then my girlfriend bought one of the shiny blue ones for me. So, I have enough for PCM recordings, but I could surely use more.

There has been a poll on how many minidisc units you own, but whats a player without discs right? So time to let everyone know how many HI MD discs you own!

When you say 'Hi MD discs' do you mean the 1GB ones exclusively or also HiMD formatted standard MDs?

I'd suggest to specify the topic title and poll question or generalize the topic title, add a second poll for standard MDs and specify poll questions and to avoid confusion.

Propably, but i have spotted Sony 305MB Hi-MD discs in a nearby store, which propably don't differ from standard 80min MDs at all but are differently labeled. This is why it seems unclear to me.

GM, i've recently spotted these as well, sez: "Compatible with Hi-MD Recorder"

Sorry I realised this after I had posted the topic, I mean just the 1GB discs only in the poll. But feel free to post how many normal discs you have below. At one point I had about 200, but when net MD came along i foolishly thought lp2 was the same quality as SP so I sold most of my normal discs and only have around 25 left. I have 10 1GB discs now all recorded at HISP, and doubt I will need many more.

Andicillo where did you pick up a 60min disc??

I have 8 HI-MD's my goal is 20. I have a boatload about 100+ Legacy SP MD's. About 80 or so MDLP's MD's. I keep buy 5 MD's a month since last October. For more Legacy MD recordings.

At the moment I have 16 1GB blanks & approx.70 of the 80min blanks. And, even though this is more than enough to meet my demands, I cannot help but continually talk myself into buying more (especially the 1GB blanks - they are unreal) each time I pass a store that stocks them. The 1GB blanks retail for approx.$4.50 (in Australia) and they have a resale value of double that ($10.00) on eBay. This is because as everyone knows they are generally hard to find. I'm in luck at the moment, as my local retailer has some in stock and it appears that no customers (other than myself) are aware that they exist. So what I do is buy a 1GB blank, then list it on eBay for double what I originally paid, and then purchase 2 with the sale proceeds - ie. 2 for the price of 1.

I envy you I can't find HI-MD's within a 400 Mile radius of where I live. I do travel quite a bit but rarely outside this area. The only place I find them is in Sony stores at a ridiceous price of $8 USD. I buy disc where ever I can find them and players as well because I fear that in the future both will be harder to come by. I would buy online but I am never home long enough to recieve any type of packages.

My luck won't last long. They only have about 10 or 12 1GB blanks left. They originally had about 15. I have since purchased 4 or 5. If only wish I had enough spare cash to grab the whole bundle before somebody else finds them !

I feel the same as you do about the discs & the players. I also fear they will disappear, and I do not fancy that happening. I have purchased 3 Hi-MD units in the last 3 months from MiniDisc Australia (who are having a massive sale on the Hi-MD units - up to 68% off recommended retail !), so that I have a few units to last me a few years. My family believe I need help ! They keep on saying another one ! When will it stop ! Just one more player I keep on saying ! I mean, at the price they are in Australia right now, any MD-lover would be silling to not buy 3 or 4 units (depending on your budget). I purchased the MZ-NH900 for $199.00 (Australian dollars) - the recommended retail was $849.00 for the bundle. This is no "fake" sale to get you in the door, this is a real bargain !

Got 1 Hi-MD & 10 80's

I usually record continuously for around 2 hrs, so I'm out of luck with PCM anyway.

Sometimes my sessions run for 5 hrs uninterrupted, then I use my only 1GB disc.

PS

Looks like I'm too the only buyer of Hi-MD media in my area - they had a box of discs unopened for some 2 months until I acquired a recorder and made them break the pack. The price is $9 for Hi-MD's and there are absolutely no 80 min discs available in outlets.

(Oh, and to a great surprise - found a huge number of legacy MD makes in the so-called "Radio-bazaar", our local open-air marketplace for all sorts of electronics)

25 - Hi-MD

27 - 80min MD

46 - 74min MD

14 - 60min MD

Many of 60 and 74 minute blanks were acquired around 93-96 when they were'nt cheap. My local Sony dealer would give me a break on a box of five since I bought the players from him.

I have 2 HiMD Minidiscs at the moment which I bought from the Sony Centre the day after buying my HiMD recorder.

After checking out Discount Discs prices I think I'll get a couple more discs.

I originally wanted to get the HiMD recorder mainly for USB data storage (which has come in handy with 1GB capacity) but now I mainly use it for music.

I'm also hoping to get one of them Connects2 adapters for my old Sony MD headunit which the MD player no longer works. At least I should be able to still make use of it with the HiMD recorder.

I've found at the moment, I can't find many CDs that I want to transfer on to MD. I've got a few 80min discs formatted to HiMD which I have some of my favorite music on.

In total I now have around 20 74 & 80min MD's and about 3 pre-recorded MD's.

I got one HiMD with my MZ-NH1 - bought it on new years eve 2005.

Today I picked up 19 more @ €0.50 each !!!

I totally could not believe it when I saw them - had to take the lot!!

Wow! 50 eurocents each? Where was that? I just ordered another 5 from Minidisc AU, even when you factor in the shipping still works out cheaper than buying locally here in NL.
